Italy's largest publishing fair, held at Lingotto Fiere in Turin
The Turin International Book Fair is the largest and most prestigious publishing fair in Italy, as well as one of the most significant in Europe. Since 1988, the capital of Piedmont, in the heart of the Municipality of Turin and the Metropolitan City, has hosted this annual event that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the country and abroad. The venue is the Lingotto Fiere, located at Via Nizza 294, a historic Fiat industrial complex converted into an exhibition space.
The Book Fair is more than just a trade show: it is a grand celebration of reading that brings together publishers, writers, and readers. Throughout the pavilions, over twelve hundred publishing brands are represented, ranging from major houses to small independent presses, while dozens of rooms host presentations, masterclasses, debates, and workshops. The program, featuring over two thousand seven hundred events, spans from fiction to non-fiction, poetry to comics, and art to science, cinema, and current affairs.
What makes the Book Fair a world-class event is the quality of its guests: every edition brings Nobel laureates, internationally renowned writers, and key figures of contemporary cultural debate to Turin. Alongside beloved Italian authors, the public can hear voices from every continent in a dialogue that makes the Book Fair a true crossroads of cultures. Each year, a Guest Country and a Guest Region bring their literature and traditions to the center of the event.
Parallel to the fair at Lingotto, the Salone Off takes events outside the pavilions, spreading them across hundreds of locations in Turin and the surrounding Piedmont region: libraries, schools, theaters, bookstores, prisons, and local neighborhoods. It is the way the Book Fair truly becomes part of the city, reaching readers of all ages and backgrounds.
From families with children to publishing professionals, students, and enthusiasts, the Book Fair offers paths tailored to every audience. The Bookstock Arena dedicated to younger readers, the Rights Centre for international professionals, and thematic sections curated by authoritative figures ensure that every visitor finds their space in what is, for five days a year, Italy's true capital of culture.
The 38th edition of the Turin International Book Fair took place from May 14 to 18, 2026, at Lingotto Fiere, recording over 254,000 visitors. The central theme, 'The world saved by kids', drew from the title of Elsa Morante's 1968 work, focusing on the new generations. Greece was the guest country and Umbria the guest region. Under the direction of Annalena Benini, in her third term, the Book Fair offered over 2,700 events across 70 rooms, with the participation of more than twelve hundred publishing brands.
The edition opened on Thursday, May 14 at 2:00 PM in the Gold Room with the inaugural lecture by Zadie Smith, 'Everything was extreme'. The previous evening, Wednesday, May 13, featured a pre-inauguration with Vinicio Capossela on Dylan Thomas for Rai Radio3. On the evening of May 14, at 7:00 PM, the 'Heretical Night' with Alessandro Baricco and the Orchestra Canova.
Pavilions 1, 2, 3, 4, and the Oval, plus the new Pavilion 5 which transformed into 'The Club' from Saturday onwards, a space dedicated to stand-up comedy. The Rights Centre (May 13-15, over 500 global publishing professionals), the Bookstock Arena for younger readers, and school areas were all confirmed.
