A festival among the greenhouses of Rivalta

Serre d'Estate is one of the most vibrant cultural highlights of the summer in Rivalta di Torino, located in the outskirts of the Piedmontese capital in the Province of Turin. The event was born and continues to grow around the Binaria bookstore, a space founded by the Gruppo Abele on Via Roma, housed within the greenhouses and nurseries of Il Filo d'Erba: a place where culture and cultivation intertwine, and where books coexist with plants, flowers, and vegetable gardens.

A community-driven festival

The festival is promoted by Binaria Rivalta in collaboration with the Il Filo d'Erba family community and the Gruppo Abele. Its hallmark is its participatory nature: here, the public is not a passive spectator but an integral part of a collective process that combines cultural planning with direct community involvement. Over the years, Serre d'Estate has evolved into a true participatory ecosystem, capable of fostering dialogue between citizens, authors, artists, and local associations.

Three days of words, nature, and performance

The program takes place over a weekend in late June and features a diverse range of activities:

• Book presentations and meetings with authors on social and civil issues;
• Theatrical performances and live music;
• Workshops and readings for children and teenagers;
• Nature walks and outdoor activities;
• Stalls from local organizations, markets, and community-run catering.

Each edition is built around a specific theme: following the 2025 theme "Sto bene, sto male, non so dove stare" (I'm fine, I'm not fine, I don't know where to be), the fifth edition in 2026 focuses on utopias and social movements, explored through books, voices, and various forms of expression.

A project supported by the local area

The festival's growth is also supported by a crowdfunding campaign on the Produzioni dal Basso platform, designed to expand the program and increase its accessibility. Serre d'Estate has thus become a replicable model of cultural activation in Rivalta di Torino and throughout Piedmont, where the bookstore becomes a public square, a meeting place, and a laboratory of ideas for the community.
