Floats, masquerades, and music between Tufano and the historic center of Anagni
Every February, the hamlet of Tufano, just outside Anagni, transforms into a riot of color, confetti, and joy for its Carnival, one of the most popular events in the Frosinone province, in the heart of the Ciociaria region. Born from the enthusiasm of the local community, the festival attracts hundreds of visitors from across the territory every year, featuring allegorical floats, masked groups, music, and street performances.
The Carnival is organized by the Tufano Insieme Association, led by Ennio La Bella, which has spent years managing the construction of the floats and the entire event program with the involvement of local volunteers, families, and young people. The 2026 edition, marking the eleventh year, confirms an event now deeply rooted in Anagni's identity and appreciated throughout the neighboring towns of Ciociaria.
The program spans several days and two distinct settings: the playground and streets of Tufano, where the markets and neighborhood parades are concentrated, and the evocative historic center of Anagni, the famous "City of Popes," which hosts the grand finale with the float parade and festivities in Piazza Cavour. There is no shortage of craft and hobby markets, food stalls featuring local flavors, and entertainment for children.
The heart of the festival lies in the allegorical floats, handcrafted and inspired by themes from pop culture, cinema, and fantasy. Recent editions have featured attractions such as The Greatest Bubble Show, Carnival Disco Music sets, and roaming artists and dance groups accompanying the processions along the streets.
The Tufano Carnival is designed primarily for families and children: masks, confetti, workshops, and entertainment make the event a shared celebration, in a genuine and popular atmosphere that is the hallmark of this Lazio event. It is an authentic way to experience Carnival far from the major tourist circuits, among the hills of Ciociaria and the ancient walls of Anagni.
The 2026 edition of the Tufano Carnival, the eleventh, was spread over three days. The grand finale, on Tuesday, February 17, brought the floats from the hamlet of Tufano to the historic center of Anagni, with a parade and celebration in Piazza Cavour.
The parades and markets take place in the hamlet of Tufano (playground, municipal parking lot, and neighborhood streets) and in the historic center of Anagni, ending in Piazza Cavour.
Anagni is located in the province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region. By car, it can be reached via the A1 Rome-Naples motorway (Anagni-Fiuggi exit). By train, the Anagni-Fiuggi station is on the Rome-Cassino line, with bus connections to the center.
Participation in the parades and street events is free. Food stalls and markets operate on a voluntary contribution basis.
