Nativity scene trail, Santa's House, and Christmas markets in the Monti Lepini village
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
When the Advent lights flicker on, Supino—a village in the province of Frosinone tucked into the slopes of the Monti Lepini in the heart of the Ciociaria—becomes a charming, widespread Christmas village. The "Once Upon a Time... Christmas" program, promoted by the Municipality of Supino in collaboration with local associations, unites the Nativity Scene Trail, Santa's House, Christmas markets, concerts, shows, and workshops for the little ones into a single project. From the Immaculate Conception to Epiphany, the historic center and Viale Regina Margherita serve as the stage for over a month of events designed for families, visitors, and the entire community.
The heart of the event is the Nativity Scene Trail, which in the 2025 edition—the third—featured about thirty nativity scenes scattered among the village's alleys, squares, and churches. Each scene is set up by associations, citizens, families, and committees: they range from traditional nativities to original creations, such as the chocolate nativity scene at a local bakery on the main avenue, and even a contemporary piece inspired by Mondrian, created by the young volunteers of the Supino Civil Service and displayed at the town hall. The result is an evocative itinerary that invites you to rediscover the most beautiful corners of the village at a slow pace, illuminated for the holidays.
Along Viale Regina Margherita, Santa's House comes to life, inaugurated with the arrival of Santa Claus on a magical sleigh and the telling of his legend. The "Christmas Atmospheres" day brings the avenue to life with Christmas markets open from morning until late afternoon, while the following days are filled with shows, creative workshops, book presentations, clown therapy sessions, and the delivery of letters to Santa. On Christmas Eve, the "Magical Sleigh of Gifts" travels through the village streets to bring presents to the children.
"Once Upon a Time... Christmas" was born with the goal of promoting the holidays by reviving traditions through the stories of grandparents, who experienced a very different Christmas than today's children and teenagers. The first editions date back to 2023, featuring Santa's House and the first nativity trail; since then, the program has grown thanks to the commitment of organizations like the Supino in Vetrina association, the Municipal Civil Protection Group, and the local band and folk groups, with the support of the Lazio Region.
Visiting Supino during the holidays is also an opportunity to discover a village with ancient roots, known for its Roman-era remnants and religious traditions like the Feast of San Cataldo. Less than an hour and a half from Rome and just a few kilometers from Frosinone, the town offers hiking trails on the Monti Lepini and a solid Ciociarian gastronomic tradition: an authentic, family-friendly Christmas, far from the crowds of the big cities.
The Municipality of Supino has not yet communicated the official dates for Christmas 2026. In recent editions, the formula has been consolidated: the Nativity Scene Trail inaugurated in early December and open until January 6th, Santa's House open from mid-December on Viale Regina Margherita, and a day of markets with the arrival of Santa Claus on his sleigh. It is therefore likely that the village will come alive during the same period in 2026, but pending the official announcement, it is advisable to check the program on the Municipality of Supino's channels before traveling.
By car: A1 Rome-Naples motorway, exit at Ferentino or Frosinone, then follow the SR 156 of the Monti Lepini to Supino. By train: Ferentino-Supino station on the Rome-Cassino line, located a few kilometers from the center.
All events in the Christmas program are free of charge. The Nativity Scene Trail can be visited freely throughout the alleys, squares, and churches of the historic center; Santa's House and the markets are located on Viale Regina Margherita.
