About Cave Christmas Markets

Every December, the central Piazza Nassiriya in Cave, a village in the Prenestini Mountains near Rome, transforms into the beating heart of the holiday season with its traditional three-day Christmas Market. Artisan stalls, twinkling lights, the scent of mulled wine and hot chocolate, Santa's house for posting letters, and plenty of entertainment for children delight families and visitors alike. To complete the atmosphere, the evocative Monumental Nativity Scene by Master Lorenzo Ferri is on display at the Civic Museum.

Christmas in the heart of the Prenestini Mountains

A few kilometers from Rome, nestled in the Prenestini Mountains, the town of Cave lights up the magic of the holidays every year with its Christmas Markets. For an intense three-day period, usually held over the first weekend of December around the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, the town center dresses up for the occasion and becomes a beloved destination for local families and visitors from the Castelli Romani and the Sacco Valley.

Piazza Nassiriya, the city's Christmas living room

The heart of the event is Piazza Nassiriya, which is transformed for the occasion into a festive, flat, and safe space, protected from vehicle traffic and located right in the town center. Among the decorated wooden stalls, large luminous ribbons, and sparkling installations that welcome visitors at the entrance to the town, strolling through the lights becomes a small collective ritual that feels like community and anticipation.

What to experience at the Markets

The program combines craftsmanship, taste, and entertainment, with special attention to children:

  • Quality artisan stalls, with handmade creations and Christmas gift ideas;
  • Holiday gastronomy: hot chocolate, hot tea, mulled wine, traditional biscuits, sweets, and cotton candy;
  • Santa's inflatable house, where little ones can post their letters;
  • Christmas entertainment with Santa Claus, elves, and soap bubbles for children;
  • Lights and installations that illuminate the square and the streets of the center.

The Monumental Nativity Scene by Lorenzo Ferri

Enriching the Christmas period is the exhibition of the Monumental Nativity Scene hosted at the Civic Museum of the City of Cave: plaster statues created by Master Lorenzo Ferri, up to four meters tall, distributed throughout the civic museum's rooms. An artistic heritage that complements the market festival with a highly evocative cultural proposal, capable of recounting the devotion and popular tradition of the village.

A community event

The event is born from the collaboration between the Municipal Administration of Cave, the Pro Loco, and local artisans and associations, who every year pool their energy and creativity to give the town a few days of authentic Christmas atmosphere. It is a family-friendly, free, and open-air Christmas, designed for both adults and children.

Cave and the Prenestini Mountains

Located in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio, Cave is a village with a long history overlooking the Prenestini Mountains, a short distance from Palestrina and the main centers of the area. Visiting the Christmas Markets is also an opportunity to discover the historic center, the alleys, and the genuine hospitality of this corner of Lazio, where the tradition of the holidays remains a shared value.

Cave Christmas Markets — edition 2026

The Cave Christmas Markets are expected to return in December 2026 to Piazza Nassiriya, following the tradition of the Prenestini Mountains village. At the moment, the official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published by the Municipality and the Pro Loco: it is recommended to check for updates before planning your visit.
