The grand town parade by Trinitapoli's schools
The Trinitapoli Carnival is one of the most cherished events for the community of Trinitapoli, a town in the Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (BT), in the heart of Puglia. This is not a carnival run by a committee or an association, but a true town festival born from the schools and involving the entire city: students, teachers, families, and citizens take to the streets together to liven up the morning with colors, music, and masks.
The event is organized by the city's educational institutions—the Istituto Dell'Aquila-Staffa, the Istituto Comprensivo Don Milani-Garibaldi-Leone, and the Scuola dell'Infanzia Fate e Folletti—with the patronage of the Municipality of Trinitapoli, through the Department of Public Education and Culture. It is the result of weeks of classroom activities and workshops: costumes, posters, and decorations are crafted by the students, guided by their teachers.
What makes the Trinitapoli Carnival special is its community and educational spirit. The parade starts from the Istituto Staffa courtyard and winds through the town center, turning the streets into a long, festive procession. Each year, a theme is chosen to serve as the common thread for costumes and choreography, allowing the fun of Carnival to intertwine with a learning journey about local identity and values.
The involvement of different generations—from preschool children to high school students, and the parents and grandparents watching along the route—makes this day an authentic moment of connection, where the school leaves the classroom and becomes the protagonist of town life.
Situated between the wetlands of Margherita di Savoia and the Puglian countryside, Trinitapoli experiences Carnival as an opportunity to come together and celebrate its community. The school parade, repeated year after year, is now a fixed date on the local calendar, consistently exceeding expectations in terms of participation and enthusiasm. Those visiting the BAT region during Carnival will find a genuine festival here, far from the major tourist circuits but rich in warmth and authentic Puglian spirit.
On Thursday, February 19, 2026, the center of Trinitapoli transformed into a large, festive procession for the 2026 edition of the Trinitapoli Carnival, dedicated to the theme "Puglia, Queen of the South." A tribute to regional identity that showcased the flavors, crafts, and beauties of the territory.
The parade, which set off in the morning from the Istituto Staffa courtyard, featured students from the Istituto Dell'Aquila-Staffa, the Istituto Comprensivo Don Milani-Garibaldi-Leone, and the Scuola dell'Infanzia Fate e Folletti, alongside teachers, parents, and citizens. Mayor Francesco Di Feo and the Municipal Administration accompanied the procession, which was described as a true "rainbow of happiness."
The theme inspired costumes and decorations dedicated to typical Puglian products (burrata, pasticciotto, taralli, cartellate, focaccia, panzerotti), seafood (mussels and sea urchins), local agriculture (wine, oil, violet artichokes), ancient crafts, the salt pans of Margherita di Savoia, and the thermal baths, with an environmental awareness message on marine protection. Students from the Liceo Staffa wore t-shirts with sayings in the Trinitapoli dialect.
The parade takes place in the center of Trinitapoli (BT), starting from the Istituto Staffa courtyard and following a route through the town streets. The event is held in the morning, typically starting at 10:00 AM.
Trinitapoli can be reached by car via the SS16 Adriatica road and the A14 motorway (Cerignola Est or Canosa exits). The reference railway station is Trinitapoli-San Ferdinando-Margherita, on the Adriatic line.
Participation in the parade is free and open to all. The event is suitable for families and children.
