The Patronal Feast of Trinitapoli

The Patronal Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Loreto and Saint Stephen the Protomartyr is the most anticipated event of the year for the community of Trinitapoli, located in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT), Apulia. Every summer, in the heart of August, the entire town unites around its two patron saints in a celebration that weaves together faith, civic identity, and popular tradition.

Three days of devotion and celebration

The festivities traditionally take place on August 14th, 15th, and 16th, alternating between solemn liturgical moments and public events. The opening day begins at dawn with the traditional risveglio (awakening) accompanied by fireworks and the parade of the 'Città di Trinitapoli' Concert Band through the streets. Eucharistic celebrations are held in the Mother Church and the Sanctuary of the B.V.M. of Loreto, the spiritual heart of the festival.

• Solemn Processions: The statue of Saint Stephen the Protomartyr is carried in a procession from the Cathedral to the Sanctuary, while the main day features the grand procession of both patron saints through the decorated streets.
• 'Città di Trinitapoli' Concert Band: The local band, a historic protagonist of the festival, performs concerts in the main square under the bandstand.
• Illuminations and Markets: The town center is lit up with classic Apulian light displays, while stalls and stands animate the evenings.
• Fireworks: The festival concludes with famous fireworks displays that light up the sky over Trinitapoli.

A heritage of faith and community

The festival is organized by the Patronal Feast Committee in collaboration with the Santa Maria di Loreto Confraternity, the Saint Stephen Confraternity, the Madonna di Loreto Parish, and under the patronage of the Municipality of Trinitapoli and the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie. Religious services are often presided over by the diocesan archbishop and accompanied by the Lauretano Polyphonic Choir.

For the residents of Trinitapoli and the many emigrants who return during these days, the patronal feast represents a moment of rediscovery of roots, social cohesion, and renewed Marian devotion. Visitors to the BAT area during Ferragosto will find one of the most authentic expressions of popular religious life in the Tavoliere delle Puglie region.
