The widespread Carnival in the Trentino capital, featuring float parades and neighborhood festivities
The Trento Carnival is the most anticipated winter masquerade event in the capital of Trentino-Alto Adige. It is not an event concentrated in a single square, but a true widespread Carnival: the Municipality of Trento enlivens the historic center and the twelve city districts with over thirty appointments, including parades, shows, fairground rides, and gastronomic festivals, involving the entire community from children to the elderly.
The highlight of the event is the parade of allegorical floats, which has returned to center stage after years of suspension. Masked groups and large floats built by local committees and associations cross the center, starting from Piazza di Fiera to reach Piazza della Mostra, where the final awards ceremony takes place, honoring the most beautiful and original masks and floats.
Throughout the duration of the Carnival, the center of Trento fills with color and joy. The two main squares host fairground rides, open every afternoon with extended hours on weekends and peak days. There is no shortage of traveling concerts, cartoon mascots, face painting, stilt walkers, jugglers, and marching bands that accompany the festive days.
The Trentino Carnival is also a triumph of typical flavors. In the districts and suburbs such as Mattarello, Gardolo, Meano, Argentario, and Bondone, the delicious traditions of the period are renewed: grostolade (based on grostoli, the typical fried Carnival pastries), gnoccolade with gnocchi for everyone, and community pasta feasts, organized by neighborhood committees in an atmosphere of authentic conviviality.
The Trento Carnival represents a perfect opportunity to experience the festive atmosphere of the Trentino capital, amidst alpine folklore, traditional sweets, and the joy of being together.
From February 6 to 17, 2026, the Trentino capital experienced a widespread Carnival with more than thirty events. The program opened on Saturday, February 7 with a traveling concert from Piazza Fiera to Piazza Mostra, accompanied by stilt walkers and street performers. Thursday, February 12 featured cartoon mascots, face painting, and traveling shows.
The most anticipated moment arrived on Saturday, February 14 at 2:30 PM with the grand parade of masked groups and allegorical floats, which started from Piazza di Fiera towards Piazza della Mostra, where the awards ceremony with cash prizes was held. Tuesday, February 17 marked the closing with traveling juggling and a marching band performance. Throughout the period, fairground rides enlivened the city squares, while in the districts, there was no shortage of grostolade, gnoccolade, and neighborhood parties.
Trento is well connected by the A22 Brenner motorway (Trento Centro or Trento Sud exit) and the Brenner railway line: the Trento station is just a few minutes' walk from the historic center and Piazza di Fiera. The reference airports are Verona Villafranca and Bergamo Orio al Serio.
Admission to the Carnival events is free. Fairground rides in the squares require payment. For the complete and updated program, consult the Municipality of Trento's event portal (eventi.comune.trento.it) or call 0461 884287.
Dress in layers for the Trentino winter climate and arrive early along the parade route to ensure a good view. The center is pedestrianized during the festival days: it is advisable to leave your car in the designated parking lots and reach the center on foot or by public transport.
