The popular religious festival of Tre Case, nestled under the chestnut trees of Mount Amiata
The Tre Case Crucifix Festival is the popular religious celebration of the small hamlet of Tre Case, in the municipality of Piancastagnaio, in the province of Siena, on the Sienese slopes of Mount Amiata. It is one of those village festivals that captures the most authentic soul of inland Tuscany: an event born from devotion to the Most Holy Crucifix of the Ripe, the wooden image kept in the hamlet's small church, which has grown over the years into a key gathering point for the entire community.
The festival was suspended in 2010 due to logistical issues with the structure then used by the organizing committee. After a twelve-year absence, the tradition was restored thanks to the construction of a new venue by the municipal administration, designed not only for the Crucifix Festival but for all community initiatives in Tre Case. The return of the festival has been a significant event for the hamlet, a sign of a community determined to preserve its roots.
The religious heart of the event is the procession in honor of the Crucifix, which winds through the streets of the hamlet, involving residents and faithful from across the Amiata region. Alongside the sacred rites, the festival showcases the more convivial and popular side of Tuscan village fairs:
As with any respectable village festival, good food is one of the main reasons to head up to Tre Case. Dining, set up in the new facility and outdoors among the chestnut trees, offers typical products of Mount Amiata and Tuscan cuisine in a genuine, family atmosphere. It is the ideal opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the province of Siena, far from the most crowded tourist circuits and immersed in the nature of Amiata.
The Tre Case Crucifix Festival is above all a community celebration, organized by the Tre Case Crucifix Festival Committee with the support of the Piancastagnaio Pro Loco. More than a grand spectacle, it is a moment of identity and encounter, where different generations come together to renew a tradition dear to the village. For those visiting Mount Amiata in late spring, it is a precious opportunity to experience the authenticity of Tuscan hamlet festivals.
The Tre Case Crucifix Festival returned in 2026 to the hamlet of Piancastagnaio, on Mount Amiata, confirming the successful revival of the tradition after years of suspension. The event was held from Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 7th, 2026, organized by the Tre Case Crucifix Festival Committee with the support of the Piancastagnaio Pro Loco.
As per tradition, the festival combined the religious aspect, with the procession in honor of the Crucifix, with the convivial side, featuring food stalls, musical evenings, cabaret, and entertainment for children. The detailed day-by-day program was shared by the organizing committee through the festival's social media channels.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition was announced by the Tre Case Crucifix Festival Committee on the festival's official channels. The event spanned three days (from Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 7th) following the traditional structure:

Tre Case is a hamlet of Piancastagnaio (SI), on Mount Amiata, a few kilometers from the town center. By car, you can reach Piancastagnaio via the SS2 Cassia road or the Amiata road network; the hamlet is located just a short distance from the main town. The nearest train station is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, from which you can continue by car or local bus services.
Admission to the festival is free. Food and drinks at the stalls are available for purchase according to the displayed prices.
We recommend comfortable clothing and a light jacket for the evenings, given the cool climate of Mount Amiata even during the spring and summer months. For updated information on dates and the program, it is useful to check the Facebook page of the Tre Case Crucifix Festival Committee or contact the Piancastagnaio Pro Loco.
