The multidisciplinary contemporary culture festival in South Tyrol
Founded in 2001, Transart is now one of Italy's leading multidisciplinary contemporary culture festivals, highly regarded across Europe. Based in Bolzano, in the Province of Bolzano and the Trentino-South Tyrol region, the festival turns the entire South Tyrolean territory into a widespread stage every September, where music, performance, theatre, dance, cinema, and new technologies intersect.
The hallmark of Transart is its choice of venues: performances do not just take place in theatres, but come to life in unconventional spaces—former industrial architecture, production contexts, and everyday or marginal settings. From the heart of Bolzano, the programme extends throughout the province, from the Vinschgau Valley to the Puster Valley, reaching towns such as Merano, Bressanone, Brunico, Chiusa, Cortaccia, Appiano, Renon, and Silandro. This shifting geography invites the public to discover the South Tyrolean landscape through the lens of contemporary art.
Transart's programme weaves multiple disciplines into a continuous dialogue:
Each edition offers over thirty appointments, including both ticketed and free events, with a strong emphasis on research and emerging generations of artists.
Transart is organised by the Transart Association with the support of the Trentino-South Tyrol Region, the Ministry of Culture, the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, the City of Bolzano, and the Sparkasse Foundation. Over the years, it has hosted internationally renowned artists and collectives, establishing itself as a European benchmark for those wishing to experience contemporary culture in its freest and most experimental form, immersed in the unique setting of South Tyrol.
The 26th edition of Transart is scheduled from September 10th to 20th, 2026, in Bolzano and numerous towns across South Tyrol. The full programme will be unveiled during the press conference on July 20th, 2026, at the Glasshouse of the Parkhotel Laurin in Bolzano.
Among the first previews announced are Mōdraniht. Songs of Winter War, the Italian premiere by the Ukrainian collective Opera Aperta; ALPEN ÉTUDE, a site-specific work by Austrian choreographer Florentina Holzinger in dialogue with the South Tyrolean landscape; and Book a Scientist, a project by Caroline Barneaud and Stefan Kaegi (Rimini Protokoll) featuring participatory meetings in private homes on September 17th and 18th.
As per tradition, the edition will alternate between ticketed and free events, with dedicated passes such as Transart Lover and Transart Young.
