A nature run through the woods and 'rittani' ravines of the Roero, in Sommariva del Bosco
The Trail del Bersaglio is one of the most lively running events in the Roero area, organized in Sommariva del Bosco, in the province of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. Every year, at the beginning of May, the Parco del Bersaglio becomes the meeting point and starting line for a day entirely dedicated to nature running, bringing together the competitive spirit of trail runners and the enthusiasm of families.
The course winds through woods, sandy ridges, and the characteristic rittani of the Roero—the deep incisions in the terrain typical of this area that offer wild and almost unexpected views. The event involves not only the municipality of Sommariva del Bosco but also the neighboring towns of Sommariva Perno, Pocapaglia, and Sanfrè, which are crossed by the longer routes.
The Trail del Bersaglio offers three competitive routes designed for athletes of all levels, each with an evocative name linked to the world of mountaineering:
Alongside the competitive races, there is also a 10 km non-competitive run, the Family Walk of about 8 km for walkers and families, and the Kids Run, a race dedicated to the little ones with prizes and gadgets.
The Trail del Bersaglio is more than just a race: it is a true local festival dedicated to sport and conviviality. The Parco del Bersaglio hosts a Base Camp with overnight stay options, while throughout the day there are plenty of services and moments of relaxation, such as showers, a bag drop, massages, yoga sessions, a pasta party, and a post-race beer. A shuttle bus connects the parking area to the starting point to assist participants.
The organization is managed by the CB Sport Caramagna association, with the support of the Piedmont Region, local municipalities, the Roero Forest Park, and the FIDAL, in a climate of strong participation that grows with every edition.
Sommariva del Bosco is located in the Roero plains, in the province of Cuneo. By car, it can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene or Carmagnola exits) or via provincial roads from Bra and Carmagnola. The Sommariva del Bosco railway station is served by the Turin-Cavallermaggiore-Savona line.
The meeting point and start line are at the Parco del Bersaglio. Bib collection takes place on Saturday afternoon (5 PM - 8 PM) and Sunday morning from 7 AM. Registration is done online; the Family Walk and Kids Run are also open for registration on the day of the event. For information: [email protected].
We recommend trail running gear and shoes suitable for sandy and sometimes slippery terrain in the 'rittani'. A shuttle bus is available from the parking area to the starting point.
