Traditional Polenta Feast of Gaby

A feast of Walser tradition

In Gaby, a municipality with Walser language and culture in the lower Lys Valley, in the Aosta Valley, the Traditional Polentata is one of the summer events most cherished by the community. Organized by the Pro Loco of Gaby, it takes place every year between late July and early August, bringing together residents and holidaymakers around a dish that tells the story of the mountains.

The star dish

The heart of the festival is the unique dish: polenta and polenta concia, the Aosta Valley version enriched with butter and Fontina cheese, served with sausage, stew, and cheese, with wine or water. A hearty recipe, designed for mountain days, which captures the authentic flavor of Alpine cuisine.

The setting

The event is held in the green area of the pine forest at Tzendelabò, a shaded and cool spot perfect for a day outdoors. Between tastings, there is no shortage of conviviality and the relaxed atmosphere typical of Aosta Valley village festivals.

Entirely curated by Pro Loco volunteers, the Polentata is above all a moment of gathering: an opportunity to rediscover the gastronomic traditions of Gaby and to experience the genuine hospitality of the Lys Valley.
