The Snail Weekend is one of the most anticipated gastronomic events on the Pro Loco Camandona calendar. At the end of November, as the Biellese autumn enters its coldest phase, the small municipality of Camandona, in the Province of Biella, gathers around the table to celebrate a dish with deep roots in traditional peasant cooking: snails, prepared according to local recipes.

The initiative is spread over two distinct moments during the weekend: a Saturday evening dinner and a Sunday lunch. Both events take place in the Salone Falletti, in the Bianco district, the historic home of the Pro Loco's activities and the heart of the village's social life.

The tradition of snails in the Biella area

Snails have always held a special place in the humble cuisine of the Piedmontese and Biellese valleys. Once a survival food gathered in fields and gardens, they have evolved into a delicacy to be enjoyed on convivial occasions. Re-proposing them in a dedicated event means preserving gastronomic knowledge that might otherwise be lost, and offering participants an authentic taste of the territory's culinary identity.

A village event in Camandona

More than a large tourist festival, the Snail Weekend is a community celebration. The Pro Loco Camandona, founded in the 1970s and now boasting over two hundred members, organizes numerous food and wine events throughout the year—from spring bagna cauda to the Sant'Anna festivities in July, from mixed boiled meats in September to the Christmas Eve 'Notte degli Auguri'—and the weekend dedicated to snails is one of the most characteristic chapters of this calendar.
