The grand day of games, fun, and hiking for the AVS youth groups of the Passeier Valley
Over the years, Tottermandler af Wonderschoft has become the largest event hosted by the Alpenverein Südtirol (AVS): a day entirely dedicated to games, fun, and mountain hiking, designed for children, teenagers, and entire families. The event stems from the collaboration of the AVS youth groups of the Passeier Valley — St. Leonhard, St. Martin, Pfelders, Platt, Moos, and Walten — who join forces every year to welcome hundreds of participants from all over South Tyrol.
The heart of the day is a hiking trail dotted with 13 game stations, where teams tackle skill, movement, and knowledge challenges to earn points along the way. Participating groups — divided into teams of children, families, or adults (Ü18) — receive a prize at the end based on the points earned. The 2026 edition takes place along the Norggensteig, the famous themed trail in San Leonardo in Passiria dedicated to the Norggen, the small green-clad goblins of local legend: a route designed for families and children that blends play, nature, and local tradition.
Behind the event lies an impressive volunteer effort: in the 2025 edition, about 130 volunteers were on the field to welcome and entertain participants. Tottermandler is considered a virtuous example of collaboration between the different towns in the valley and the commitment of the AVS youth communities, having grown year after year to exceed 800 participants.
The event is set in the Passeier Valley, an alpine valley in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige, famous for its mountain landscapes and its connection to the fairy-tale figures of the Norggen. The Municipality of San Leonardo in Passiria (St. Leonhard in Passeier) hosts the 2026 edition, with the start and finish in the main town: an opportunity to discover the area while walking, playing, and sharing a day dedicated to the mountain spirit and community life.
For the sixteenth time, the AVS youth groups of the Passeier Valley (St. Leonhard, St. Martin, Pfelders, Platt, Moos, and Walten) are organizing the Tottermandler af Wonderschoft, scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026, in San Leonardo in Passiria. After the 2025 edition held in Plan (Pfelders), the event returns to the main town along the Norggensteig, the themed trail dedicated to the Norggen goblins.
Registration and departure take place on-site at the Gasthof Sandwirt from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Teams hike the trail, tackling 13 game stations with skill, movement, and knowledge challenges, collecting points along the way. From 12:30 PM, children can participate in a circus program curated by the Animativa association. The day concludes with the awards ceremony at 4:30 PM at Raiffeisenplatz in San Leonardo, where each group receives a prize based on the points earned.
