About Torrenova Carnival

The Torrenova Carnival is the most festive and colorful highlight of the calendar in Torrenova, a small town on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Messina. Every February, the town streets come alive with allegorical floats, costumed groups, and music, starting and ending in Piazza Autonomia. The event combines a parade of large floats animated by local DJs with the Children's Carnival, a special segment dedicated to local schools. It is a deeply felt popular tradition organized by the Municipality in collaboration with the Pro Loco Nuova Torrenova and local float artisans.

The Torrenova Carnival

The Torrenova Carnival is one of the most beloved popular festivals in Torrenova, a town overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily. For a few days every February, the town center transforms into a large open-air stage, where the creativity of float artisans and the joy of masqueraders bring color, music, and fun for all ages to the streets.

The Allegorical Float Parade

The heart of the event is the allegorical float parade, which starts and ends in Piazza Autonomia, winding through Via B. Caputo, Via Mazzini, Via Meli, and Via M. Ioppolo. The large floats, the result of patient work by local teams, move along accompanied by music from local DJs who animate the platforms with sets designed to get everyone dancing. Along the route, there is no shortage of costumed groups and competitions for the most beautiful and original costumes.

The Children's Carnival

A significant part of the festival is dedicated to the little ones. The Children's Carnival takes place in the morning in Piazza Autonomia and is aimed at kindergarten, primary, and secondary school students, featuring entertainment, games, and shows tailored for children, managed by local entertainment associations.

A Community Celebration

The Torrenova Carnival is the result of a collective effort: the Torrenova Municipal Administration and the Pro Loco Nuova Torrenova coordinate the event together with the float builders, costumed groups, and DJs who contribute their time and energy. It is one of those traditions that reflect the identity of a small Sicilian town, capable of drawing families and visitors from neighboring towns along the Messina Tyrrhenian coast to the square.

An Event to Experience

Amidst confetti, streamers, and the energy of the floats, the Torrenova Carnival offers a day of lightheartedness in the spirit of the Sicilian carnival tradition. It is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic village in northeastern Sicily, away from the main tourist flows, during the most playful time of the year.
