About Torino di Sangro Carnival

The Torino di Sangro Carnival is the historic carnival celebration of Torino di Sangro, in the province of Chieti, reaching its 31st edition in 2026. Organized by the Pro Loco Torino di Sangro APS with the patronage of the Municipality, it brings the historic center of the Abruzzo village to life with a colorful parade of allegorical floats and costumes, followed by an awards ceremony and a grand street party with food stands and live music.

The Torino di Sangro Carnival

The Torino di Sangro Carnival is the most anticipated winter event in Torino di Sangro, a small town in the province of Chieti, Abruzzo, overlooking the Costa dei Trabocchi. The name "Torinese" has nothing to do with the Piedmontese capital; it simply derives from the town's name, as the locals are known as "torinesi di Sangro". The event, now in its 31st edition in 2026, is organized by the Pro Loco Torino di Sangro APS with the patronage of the Municipality and the support of numerous local volunteers.

The parade of allegorical floats

The heart of the festival is the grand parade of allegorical floats and costumes that winds through the streets of the historic center. The floats, built over the preceding months by local groups and associations, parade through crowds in a riot of color, music, and joy. At the end of the procession, an awards ceremony takes place: a jury recognizes the most beautiful floats in each category and the most original costumes, involving both adults and children in a healthy, fun-filled competition.

The street party

After the parade, the day continues with a street party: food and wine stands offer the traditional flavors of Abruzzo cuisine and typical carnival sweets, while music keeps the entertainment going until the evening. It is a moment of strong community bonding for the people of Torino di Sangro, who see this festival as one of their most deeply rooted cultural traditions.

A Carnival of the Abruzzo Pro Loco network

The Torino di Sangro Carnival is part of the "Carnival with the Pro Loco of Abruzzo" project promoted by UNPLI Abruzzo, which connects dozens of carnival events across the region every year to enhance the intangible cultural heritage and popular traditions of Abruzzo's villages. In Torino di Sangro, the Carnival is one of the most attended events of the year, drawing visitors from neighboring towns in the Sangro Valley and the Costa dei Trabocchi.
