The grand festival of the Chianina cattle breed in its native Valdichiana
In the heart of the Valdichiana, in Bettolle, a village in the municipality of Sinalunga in the Province of Siena (Tuscany), The Valley of the White Giant returns, the largest event dedicated to the Chianina cattle breed. Known as the "White Giant" for its snow-white coat and imposing size, the Chianina is one of the oldest breeds in the world and represents the soul of the livestock and gastronomic tradition of this corner of Tuscany, bordering Umbria.
The event is promoted by the Associazione Amici della Chianina, founded in Bettolle in 2005 with the goal of studying and promoting the breed in its area of origin, in collaboration with the Consorzio di Tutela del Vitellone Bianco dell'Appennino Centrale IGP. Over the years, the festival has grown to become a reference point for breeders, restaurateurs, food and wine enthusiasts, and families.
Among the most popular offerings are the guided tours of the stables of Chianina cattle farms, with the "Open Chianina Stables" initiative, which allows visitors to observe the large white cattle up close and learn about the work of the breeders. At Villa Olda, the sensory workshop "Getting to Know the Chianina" is also held, a guided tour discovering the characteristics and culinary uses of this prized meat.
The Valley of the White Giant is not just a livestock fair, but a true community celebration that tells the story of the Valdichiana's identity through the deep bond between the land, its breeders, and the Chianina. For those visiting southern Tuscany, it is the ideal opportunity to discover Bettolle and Sinalunga, savor authentic Chianina meat, and immerse themselves in an agricultural tradition that endures and renews itself year after year.
The 21st edition of The Valley of the White Giant brought life to Bettolle, a village in the municipality of Sinalunga (Province of Siena), over several weekends, from May 29 to June 7, 2026.
