About The Sound of Time

For four months, from late spring to autumn, the churches and sanctuaries of La Spezia and Lunigiana are filled with the voices of their ancient organs. Il Suono del Tempo is the international organ festival curated by the Associazione Musicale César Franck: fifteen free-entry concerts that enhance the organ heritage of the area and host top-level Italian and foreign performers.

Ancient Organs Resound Again

The Sound of Time is the international organ festival that enlivens La Spezia and Lunigiana from late May to late September. The event, organized by the Associazione Musicale César Franck under the direction of Maestro Ferruccio Bartoletti, offers fifteen concerts held in churches and sanctuaries in the area, creating a dialogue between historical instruments and great performers.

A Widespread Musical Heritage

The festival chooses sacred places housing valuable organs as its stage: from the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Salute in Piazza Brin to the churches in the city center and the villages of Lunigiana. Each concert thus becomes an opportunity to discover the architecture and history of these spaces.

International Performers with Free Entry

The program features alternating Italian and foreign organists, with a repertoire ranging from Baroque to Romanticism and the 20th century. The event, supported by the Diocese of La Spezia-Sarzana-Brugnato, the Liguria Region, and the Carispezia Foundation, has always maintained free entry, making great organ music accessible to all.
