Three days of camping, music, celebration, and spirituality for the youth of Ponsacco
In the heart of Ponsacco, a bustling town in the Valdera area of the province of Pisa, an initiative was born that has garnered attention well beyond the borders of Tuscany: The Rave Church. The name, intentionally provocative, perfectly captures the spirit of the event: taking the language of youth culture—tents, music, DJs, and nights under the stars—and filling it with content rooted in spirituality, friendship, and civic engagement. The result is a strictly alcohol-free rave, where children, teenagers, and young adults from the local area take center stage.
The event's headquarters is the square of the San Giovanni Bosco Church on Via Traversa Livornese, which fills with tents for an entire weekend in June. Over 150 children, teenagers, and young adults live together in an urban camping experience featuring games, workshops, shared meals, music, and moments of reflection. Activities extend to other parts of the town and the greenery of Parco dei Poggino, at the Torrigiani Malaspina estate, where large outdoor games—often organized by local districts—take place.
At the heart of the initiative is the ability to bridge the gap between celebration and spirituality. Alongside music and the outdoor "disco church," there is space for vigils, testimonies, and meetings with figures from the world of volunteering and social activism. Over the years, the event has featured notable guests such as Father Luigi Ciotti, founder of Libera, and Father Roberto Fiscer, the Genoese priest who was a DJ before entering the priesthood, as well as witnesses from international peace and humanitarian contexts.
The Rave Church is promoted by the Pastoral Unit of Ponsacco in collaboration with the Diocese of San Miniato and the "Giovani sul Campo" project of the Diocesan Caritas, under the guidance of Father Armando Zappolini. The stated goal is to offer young people an alternative to nightlife culture and entertainment models based on excess, showing that one can socialize, have fun, and dance while grounded in values like sharing, peace, and solidarity. In just a few editions, it has become a highly anticipated event for Ponsacco and the entire Valdera region, uniting parishes, local districts, and community associations.
The second edition of The Rave Church was held in Ponsacco from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2026, confirming the success of the "alcohol-free rave" formula. The square of the San Giovanni Bosco Church and the Parco dei Poggino hosted over 150 young people for three days of celebration, games, and reflection, promoted by the Pastoral Unit of Ponsacco with the Diocese of San Miniato and the Diocesan Caritas.
Among the most intense moments was the peace vigil featuring the "Shroud of Gaza" and testimonies from guests coming from various international contexts. The event concluded with Mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Florence.
The event takes place at the San Giovanni Bosco Church, on Via Traversa Livornese in Ponsacco (PI), with activities also held at Parco dei Poggino (Torrigiani Malaspina estate, Via Galletta).
Ponsacco is easily accessible by car via the SGC FI-PI-LI highway (take the Pontedera area exits) and the SS439 road. By train, the reference station is Pontedera-Casciana Terme, on the Florence-Pisa line, from which you can continue via local buses.
Participation (including tent and meals) requires advance registration through the parishes of the Pastoral Unit of Ponsacco, with deadlines communicated in the preceding weeks. The event is alcohol-free and aimed at children, teenagers, and young adults from the area.
