The great autumn Adriatic fish festival along the Canal Port of Cesenatico
The Fish Festival is the great autumn festival that enlivens the historic center of Cesenatico, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna, every late October. For a few days, the heart of the seaside town, and in particular the famous Leonardesque Canal Port, transforms into an immense open-air restaurant, where the absolute star is fresh Adriatic fish cooked according to Romagnola tradition.
The event has its roots in local maritime culture and was created over thirty years ago on the initiative of fishermen, with the aim of promoting the rich fish production that for generations has been the main economic resource of the Romagnola coast. Today it is organized by the Municipality of Cesenatico together with Confesercenti and Confcommercio, and represents an opportunity to rediscover the gastronomic culture of the territory, from the simplest popular recipes to dishes that tell the story of Cesenatico's fishermen.
Numerous refreshment stands managed by fishermen's associations, local restaurateurs, and volunteer groups are set up along the streets and squares of the center. The offerings range from seafood appetizers to traditional first courses, from mixed grills to the unmissable Adriatic fried fish. One of the most characteristic attractions is represented by two tourist motorboats moored in the Canal Port and transformed for the occasion into real floating restaurants.
In addition to the gastronomic aspect, the event offers a rich supporting program: shows, music, and entertainment in the squares, craft and local product markets, games, and workshops for children. Under the arcade of the Town Hall, the traditional Mycological and Botanical Exhibition is held, while the Centro Studi Calisesi and the Fishermen's Museum remain open to the public with visits, readings, and activities dedicated to children.
Strolling among the stalls and the aromas of grilled fish along the Canal Port, whose design is attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, is the best way to experience autumn in Cesenatico. The festival combines the conviviality of a Romagnola festival with the quality of Adriatic catches, in a unique landscape setting that has made Cesenatico one of the most beloved resorts on the Riviera.
For the 2026 edition, the festival runs from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1, with evening gastronomic previews starting Wednesday, October 29. Stands are open only for dinner on preview evenings, while on the main days, lunch service is also available.
