The Cecina stop of the Mascagni Festival, blending the music of Pietro Mascagni with the sea of the Etruscan Coast
Terre Mascagnane is the touring project that the Mascagni Festival dedicates to the Etruscan Coast, bringing the notes and memories of the Livorno-born composer Pietro Mascagni out of traditional stages and into the sea, pine forests, and villages of this stretch of Tuscany. Realized in collaboration with the municipalities of Cecina, Castagneto Carducci, and Bibbona, and supported by Toscana Promozione Turistica, the project offers three free events between June and August as part of the 7th edition of the Mascagni Festival.
The Municipality of Cecina, in the province of Livorno, kicks off the widespread program. On Friday, June 26, 2026, at 7:00 PM, the Tombolo Bioenergetic Nature Reserve becomes an open-air stage just a stone's throw from the coast. At sunset, amidst Mediterranean vegetation and the sound of the waves, the voices, music, and memories of the Livorno genius blend into an intimate and evocative atmosphere. A perfect opportunity to experience great music in one of the most beautiful natural settings on the Tuscan coast.
The star of the evening is actor and director Alessandro Benvenuti, who guides the audience on an emotional and personal journey into the life of Pietro Mascagni: from his childhood in Livorno to the overwhelming success of Cavalleria rusticana, through the contradictions, losses, and passions of one of the most beloved and debated composers in Italian history. The dramaturgy is by Marco Voleri. On stage, alongside Benvenuti, are sopranos Claire Nesti and Akane Tamura and pianist Massimo Salotti, for a dialogue between word and music with the sea as a common thread.
The Cecina stop is part of the widespread program of the Mascagni Festival, whose main edition is held in Livorno from August 17 to 23, 2026. After Cecina, Terre Mascagnane continues in Marina di Castagneto Carducci (July 4) and Bibbona (August 4): three evenings to celebrate the Maestro not only in the city, but also among the seaside resorts and villages of the Etruscan Coast, in that part of Tuscany that has preserved his roots.
