Short film and performing arts festival in the heart of Canelli
The Terre da Film Festival is an event dedicated to short films and performing arts, held annually in Canelli, a town in the Province of Asti in the heart of Piedmont's wine country. For three days, the squares and courtyards of the historic center, particularly Piazza Cavour, transform into open-air stages where short cinema engages with music, dance, painting, theater, poetry, and circus arts.
Founded in 2021, the festival is an independent project promoted by the Studio Azzurro association in collaboration with the Municipality of Canelli, with the support of the Piedmont Region and local entities. From its inception, the event has aimed to emotionally engage the residents of Canelli and its surroundings, fostering connection, reflection, and dialogue between the diverse communities inhabiting this area of the Langhe and Monferrato.
At the heart of the festival is an international short film competition that changes its theme every year, attracting works from directors worldwide, selected from hundreds of submissions received via the FilmFreeway platform. Screenings take place every evening outdoors at sunset, accompanied by moments of discussion with the audience and the filmmakers.
In addition to the screenings, the Terre da Film Festival offers a rich calendar of side activities:
The festival highlights Canelli, a city known for its historic sparkling wine cellars and its UNESCO World Heritage wine landscape. Thanks to free admission, the event invites residents and visitors to experience the historic center in a new way, discovering cinema as a tool for connection among the communities of Piedmont.
The sixth edition of the Terre da Film Festival will be held in Canelli from Friday, July 3rd to Sunday, July 5th, 2026. The chosen theme is anger and conflict, explored in their internal and external manifestations through the international short film competition titled BRUCIA ANCORA.
Once again, the festival gathers short films from directors around the world, screened every evening outdoors in the historic center. Alongside the competition, the program weaves together cinema, dance, painting, music, theater, poetry, and circus arts, with public meetings and dialogues with the community initiated in the preceding months.
The event is promoted by Studio Azzurro with the Municipality of Canelli and the support of the Piedmont Region. Admission is free.
The festival spans three days, from July 3rd to 5th, 2026, in the historic center of Canelli:
