The rustic Carnival banquet in Dosso di Terragnolo
The Terragnolo Carnival Maccheronata is one of those village festivals that best captures the soul of the Trentino mountains. Held in the hamlet of Dosso at the Multi-purpose Hall, it transforms this small, scattered municipality in the Terragnolo Valley—at the foot of Mount Pasubio—into a massive open-air kitchen where Carnival is experienced primarily through a steaming plate of pasta.
Terragnolo, with its administrative center in the hamlet of Piazza, is part of the Vallagarina Community in the Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige. Here, the maccheronata is more than just a lunch: it is a collective ritual that brings the entire community together, uniting generations around the table.
The Terragnolo maccheronata is part of the grand Vallagarina Carnival, a widespread calendar of events that brings dozens of pasta feasts to the valley's towns and hamlets between late January and spring—from Borghetto to Isera, Avio to Nomi, and Calliano to Pomarolo. In each town, volunteers and local Pro Loco associations prepare typical rustic Lagarina dishes, with specialties that vary from village to village.
In Terragnolo, as in the rest of the valley, the maccheronata is a festive occasion where tradition, volunteerism, and fine food intertwine. The formula is that of historic village festivals: no frills, plenty of substance, and that sense of community that makes events in small Trentino villages so special.
A simple and sincere event, perfect for those who want to discover the popular traditions of Trentino through its most authentic cuisine.
The Terragnolo Carnival Maccheronata returned on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Multi-purpose Hall in the hamlet of Dosso. Part of the widespread Vallagarina Carnival calendar—which in 2026 ran from late January through April—the festival featured the traditional maccheronata, with rustic Lagarina dishes served by local volunteers.
As per tradition, the event was a moment of celebration and conviviality open to families and visitors, featuring costumes and fine food in the heart of the Terragnolo Valley, in the Province of Trento.
