The truffle festival in Lecce nei Marsi, in the heart of the Abruzzo National Park
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Marsica region, in Lecce nei Marsi (L'Aquila province)—a small village overlooking the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park—Tartufando was born in 2025 as the town's first-ever Truffle Festival. This event was created to showcase a local treasure: the woods of Marsica have always been prime truffle territory, and the local community wanted to dedicate a festival to it that blends gastronomic tradition, regional promotion, and conviviality.
The festival centers around Piazza Monumento, the village's open-air living room, where the truffle becomes the common thread of a multifaceted evening. It is not just about food: Tartufando also highlights the culture of truffle hunting, featuring the dogs and their handlers as the true stars. It is a unique opportunity to get an up-close look at an ancient craft, built on patience, deep knowledge of the woods, and a profound bond between human and animal.
The area surrounding Lecce nei Marsi and neighboring towns lies within the Marsica district, which is particularly well-suited for truffle production. Over the years, this natural vocation has fostered development efforts led by the Associazione Tartufai della Marsica, which promotes product awareness and training for hunters. Tartufando is part of this journey, with the organizers' stated ambition to become a permanent fixture in the calendar of Marsican excellence.
Visitors arriving in Lecce nei Marsi for Tartufando will find an authentic, unpretentious, village-scale event where truffle dishes are paired with the discovery of one of Abruzzo's most beautiful mountain landscapes, right at the gates of the National Park. It is an ideal stop for food lovers and those seeking the most genuine festivals in the Apennine hinterland.
The organizers of Tartufando have expressed their intention to turn the festival into a permanent fixture of the Marsican calendar. For the 2026 edition, however, no official dates or program have been released yet. The first edition took place in July, in Piazza Monumento in Lecce nei Marsi (AQ), featuring the blessing of truffle dogs, search demonstrations, and a truffle-based dinner. It is recommended to follow local channels and the Marsican press for updates on the dates and program of the next edition.

Lecce nei Marsi can be reached by car via the A25 motorway (Pescina or Celano-Aielli exits), continuing along the southern Marsica area towards the Valle del Giovenco. The village is just a few dozen kilometers from Avezzano.
The truffle-based dinner has limited seating and requires advance booking. During the inaugural edition, registrations were handled via the organizing committee's contacts. It is recommended to check the current edition's registration methods and deadlines in advance.
