The street food festival dedicated to the king of Roman cuisine, in the heart of Testaccio
The Supplì Festival is one of the most recognizable food events in the Roman summer, entirely dedicated to the supplì, the fried, stuffed rice snack that stands as an absolute icon of the capital's street food scene. The festival takes place in the evocative setting of the Città dell'Altra Economia, within the former slaughterhouse of Testaccio—a historic, working-class district of Rome, Lazio, long considered the cradle of Roman cooking.
Launched in 2016, the festival has grown year after year to become a fixed mid-May appointment, attracting both locals and tourists eager to discover every possible iteration of this dish. In 2026, the event celebrates its tenth edition, a milestone that confirms the deep bond between this specialty and the city's gastronomic identity.
The undisputed star is, of course, the supplì, offered by vendors in dozens of different varieties:
Alongside the city's historic fry shops and specialized vendors, there is a selection of craft breweries to accompany the tastings with perfectly paired drinks.
The Supplì Festival is about more than just food: the program features live music and DJ sets to enliven the evenings, as well as a dedicated kids' area, making the event suitable for all ages. On weekends, the kitchens open in the morning, allowing visitors to spend the entire day sampling treats in a festive atmosphere.
Set in the Testaccio district, the beating heart of Roman culinary tradition, the event celebrates a simple, popular street food that tells the very history of the city. Its free admission policy and convivial atmosphere make it one of the most beloved ways to experience Roman street food in its most authentic context, among the markets, osterias, and streets of the most genuine Rome.
From May 14 to 17, 2026, the Città dell'Altra Economia in Testaccio hosted the tenth edition of the Supplì Festival, celebrating ten years of activity (2016-2026). The signature dish was presented in all its variations, from classic tomato-sauce recipes to gourmet, creative, and gluten-free versions.
Program of the tenth edition (May 14-17, 2026):
The star was the supplì in dozens of variations (classic, gourmet, creative, and gluten-free) offered by fry shops and specialized city vendors, including Roman street food operators like 180 Grammi, Sancho, and Supplizio.
