The grand parade of floats and masquerades in Salento
In the heart of lower Salento, the Supersano Carnival is one of the most anticipated and appreciated events in the entire province of Lecce. In this small Apulian town, the Carnival is more than just a local festival: it is a collective ritual that involves the entire community, from children to the elderly, spending months preparing the floats and crafting the costumes.
The hallmark of Supersano is the artisanal quality of its papier-mâché floats and the beauty of the costumes worn by the masquerade groups. Every outfit is the result of design, passion, and craftsmanship, tailored in the true spirit of Made in Italy. It is said that in Supersano, half the town sews the costumes and the other half wears them, parading along the main street. This meticulous attention to detail is what sets the event apart in the Salento and Apulian carnival landscape.
The most spectacular moment is the grand parade: the procession sets off from Parco Rimembranze and flows through the town center like a river of joy, music, and imagination. Iconic characters, theatrical masks, and animated floats enchant the crowds filling the streets. The route concludes in Piazza Magli, the symbolic heart of the festival, where the procession gathers for the final musical show and the award ceremony for the winning floats and groups.
The Supersano Carnival is designed to engage families, children, and creative groups. Alongside the parades, the program includes activities for the little ones, such as the children's masquerade ball at the Municipal Auditorium, with prizes for the best costume and makeup. The choreography in Piazza Magli turns into true open-air theatrical performances.
Alongside the most famous parades in the region, the Supersano Carnival helps make Salento one of the most vibrant Carnival destinations in Puglia. Visitors to the town during these days discover an authentic folk tradition, rooted in the creativity and sense of community that characterizes the towns of the Lecce area.
The 45th edition of the Supersano Carnival was held on Sunday, February 15, and Shrove Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The two parades of floats and masquerade groups departed from Parco Rimembranze at 4:00 PM on Sunday and 4:30 PM on Tuesday, respectively, before crossing the town center and ending in Piazza Magli with the final musical show and the proclamation of the winners. The organization was managed by the Municipality of Supersano.
In addition to the papier-mâché floats and theatrical costumes, the festivities included moments dedicated to children, such as the masquerade ball at the Municipal Auditorium, and entertainment hosted by Cinzia Corrado and Alessandro Saracino.

The parade starts at Parco Rimembranze and ends in Piazza Magli, in the center of Supersano (LE), Puglia.
By car: Supersano can be reached via the SS275 state road, about 40 km from Lecce. By train: the nearest stations are those of the Ferrovie del Sud Est in the area; from Lecce, you can continue by bus or car.
Participation in the parades along the town streets is free and open to everyone.
