Three days of street food, music, and tradition on the Castel di Tusa seafront
The Summer Festival – Street Food is the event that officially kicks off the summer season in Tusa, a small town in the province of Messina overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The event takes place on the Castel di Tusa seafront, the town's seaside hamlet, along Viale Europa Unita, in a setting that combines the deep blue sea with the vibrancy of a contemporary village festival. Sponsored by the Municipality of Tusa and the Regional Department of Productive Activities as part of the "Sicilia che piace" program, the festival is designed for residents, vacationers, and visitors traveling along the Sicilian coast.
The beating heart of the event is the seventeen food stalls that bring the seafront to life, serving as a true showcase of the island's street cuisine. Specialties include spleen sandwiches, panelle, crocchè, sarde a beccafico, swordfish rolls, boiled octopus, fried fish, provola impiccata, grilled meats, and, for a sweet finish, traditional granitas and desserts. This selection tells the story of Sicily's gastronomic identity, particularly that of the Nebrodi area and the northern coast, where fresh catch meets inland produce.
Each evening of the festival is accompanied by a musical performance on the stage overlooking the sea. The lineup alternates between live bands, singer-songwriters, and DJ sets, creating a festive atmosphere that lasts late into the night. There is also entertainment and shows designed for children, making the Summer Festival an event suitable for the whole family.
The Summer Festival is also an opportunity to discover the treasures of the Tusa area. Castel di Tusa has held the Blue Flag for the quality of its waters and beach services for years. Just a short distance away, you can find the historic village of Tusa, the archaeological site of Halaesa Arconidea, and the famous Fiumara d'Arte, a large open-air museum of contemporary sculptures scattered across the landscape. Participating in the festival means combining the pleasure of dining with the discovery of a unique cultural and natural heritage in Sicily.
More than just a food festival, the Summer Festival – Street Food is a moment of territorial promotion and tourism development for the Municipality of Tusa. Included in the local summer calendar, it represents the first major event of a season packed with festivals, exhibitions, and shows that enliven the village and its marina throughout the summer.
The Summer Festival – Street Food 2026 was held from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21 along Viale Europa Unita on the Castel di Tusa seafront. The 17 food stalls offered the great classics of Sicilian street food: spleen sandwiches, panelle, crocchè, sarde a beccafico, swordfish rolls, boiled octopus, fried fish, provola impiccata, grilled meats, granitas, and desserts.
The musical lineup was also rich: Friday the 19th featured a live performance by the group Rumore (10:00 PM), Saturday the 20th saw the concert by Aleandro Baldi (10:00 PM) followed by a DJ set by Andrea Valerio at midnight, and Sunday the 21st concluded with a musical show by Luciano Fraita (9:30 PM). Throughout the three days, there was plenty of entertainment and shows for children.
Castel di Tusa can be reached by car via the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway (Tusa exit) and by train via the Tusa railway station on the Tyrrhenian line. The reference airports are Palermo Falcone-Borsellino and Catania Fontanarossa.
On Friday, food stalls are open from 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM; on Saturday and Sunday, they operate in two shifts: lunch from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM and dinner from 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM.
Access to the festival area is free; you only pay for what you consume at the stalls.
