About Euterpe Fest

Euterpe Fest is a music festival hosted at Palazzo Minneci in Motta d'Affermo, a charming village in the province of Messina overlooking the Valli Alesine. Dedicated to Euterpe, the Muse of music, the event offers a sonic journey that begins with the songs and tales of Sicilian folk tradition, moves through sophisticated jazz, and concludes with the warm, powerful sounds of brass instruments. Born from the "Costa e Valli Alesine" cultural revival project, Euterpe Fest breathes new life into one of the most evocative historic palaces in the Nebrodi mountains.

A festival celebrating the Muse of music

Euterpe Fest is a music festival held in Motta d'Affermo, a small village in the province of Messina, nestled in the heart of northern Sicily between the scenic Valli Alesine and the slopes of the Nebrodi mountains. The name pays homage to Euterpe, the Greek Muse of music, perfectly capturing the spirit of the event: a journey through diverse musical languages, from Sicilian oral tradition to contemporary jazz.

The setting: Palazzo Minneci

The beating heart of the festival is Palazzo Minneci, a 17th-century historic residence recently restored from an abandoned ruin into a vibrant cultural hub for the town. Its rooms and spaces provide an intimate, cozy stage, perfect for enhancing the connection between the audience and the performers.

A journey through the voices of music

The Euterpe Fest program consistently spans various genres and traditions:

  • Sicilian folk tradition: songs, tales, and stories of poet-farmers, narrated through voice and guitar in the tradition of the island's great storytellers.
  • Jazz: the Muse meets the sounds of contemporary Italian jazz, with a special focus on talents connected to the region and their Sicilian roots.
  • Brass music: a grand finale featuring a brass ensemble, with a repertoire ranging from classical and operatic to pop, honoring the local village band tradition.

Part of a revival project

Euterpe Fest is part of the "Costa e Valli Alesine" project, an itinerary aimed at rediscovering the villages of Castel di Lucio, Motta d'Affermo, and Pettineo, funded by the Ministry of Culture under the PNRR "Next Generation EU" initiative to revitalize small towns. The music festival is thus part of a broader plan to promote the historical, archaeological, and cultural heritage of ancient Halaesa and its surrounding territory.

An experience to discover the Nebrodi

Attending Euterpe Fest means not only enjoying great music but also discovering an authentic corner of inland Sicily: the quiet of the villages, the views stretching from the mountains down to the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the hospitality of a community that uses culture as its engine for rebirth.
