The footrace through the hills of Colle di Buggiano, in the Valdinievole
Sui Colli... del Colle is a fresh running event debuting in 2026 in Colle di Buggiano, a charming hamlet in the municipality of Buggiano, in the province of Pistoia, in the heart of the Tuscan Valdinievole. The race follows trails, gravel roads, and country lanes surrounding the ancient village perched on the hill, offering participants sweeping views of the valley between Pistoia and Lucca, amidst olive groves, vineyards, and the terraced slopes typical of this corner of Tuscany.
The event offers three distances to accommodate every type of participant, from competitive runners to casual Sunday walkers:
The race starts at 9:00 AM from Piazza Cavour, in the center of Colle di Buggiano, which serves as the meeting point and finish line.
Also known as Buggiano Castello, the village hosting the race is one of the most fascinating in the Valdinievole. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when the hill served as a stopover on the road connecting Lucca to Pistoia. Today, the village still preserves its Romanesque parish church, the Palazzo Pretorio, and traces of the ancient fortress, while private gardens house rare citrus fruits—bergamots, citrons, and mandarins—that have earned the town the nickname "village of citrus fruits." Running or walking "sui colli" (on the hills) means traversing a landscape that blends sport, nature, and history.
Designed as an occasion for sport and social interaction, the event is aimed at both registered running club members and casual outdoor enthusiasts. The three-distance format makes the event accessible to all fitness levels, in a festive atmosphere that celebrates the territory of the Municipality of Buggiano and the entire Valdinievole.
The inaugural edition of Sui Colli... del Colle was held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in Colle di Buggiano (PT). The meeting point and start were set in Piazza Cavour, with the race beginning at 9:00 AM.
The three tracks wound along the roads and trails around the village of Colle di Buggiano, amidst olive groves and scenic views of the Valdinievole.
The tracks crossed the hills and country roads around the medieval village of Colle di Buggiano. For details on refreshments and awards, the program distributed by the local organization was the reference point.
