Sügeli, the soul of the White Cuisine
The Sügeli Festival takes place in Verdeggia, a hamlet in the municipality of Triora (province of Imperia) perched in the upper Argentina Valley. The stars are the sügeli, small dumplings made of flour and water, traditionally seasoned with 'bruzzo' (a type of cheese spread) or sauce, an expression of the White Cuisine.
The White Cuisine of the Ligurian Alps
The White Cuisine is the gastronomic tradition of the shepherds of the Ligurian Alps, based on light-coloured ingredients — milk, cheese, potatoes, leeks, turnips, flours — which were once the only ones available in the high-altitude pastures. Sügeli are one of its symbols, and the Verdeggia festival brings them back to the table in all their authenticity.
A village to discover
Verdeggia is one of the most remote and picturesque villages in the Imperia hinterland, bordering the Ligurian Alps Park. The festival, part of Triora's summer programme, is a precious opportunity to reach this mountain corner and immerse yourself in a rare authentic gastronomic and pastoral culture.
Sügeli Festival — edition 2026
For 2026, the Sügeli Festival is confirmed in Triora's summer program, following the custom of holding it between late July and early August in the hamlet of Verdeggia.
The stars, as always, are the sügeli of the White Cuisine, the flour and water dumplings of the pastoral tradition of the Ligurian Alps. The exact date will be announced by the organizers closer to the event.
