The premier Italian event dedicated to Pinot Noir, held in Egna and Montagna
The Südtiroler Blauburgundertage / Pinot Noir Days are the premier Italian event dedicated to Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder). Every year in mid-May, the two municipalities of Egna (Neumarkt) and Montagna (Montan), in the south of the Bolzano province, become the stage for four days of tastings, networking, and wine culture. The region, traversed by the South Tyrolean Wine Road, has been successfully cultivating this delicate grape variety since the mid-19th century; the Mazzone (Mazon) hillside, a hamlet of Egna, is celebrated as the true "Pinot Noir paradise" for the quality of its crus.
At the heart of the event is the National Pinot Noir Competition, the only one of its kind in Italy. A jury of oenologists, sommeliers, and experts from various wine regions evaluates over one hundred labels in blind tastings, crowning Italy's best Pinot Noirs and the winners for each represented region. The announcement of the awards officially kicks off the Days, with the prize-giving ceremony held in a stunning local setting.
The program blends the rigor of the competition with the joy of discovery:
The Pinot Noir Days are more than just a competition; they are an invitation to discover one of Italy's most prestigious terroirs. Between the medieval villages, the arcades of Egna, and the terraced vineyards climbing toward Mazzone, the event showcases the oenological identity of South Tyrol and the Trentino-Alto Adige region, where rural tradition, Central European culture, and the pursuit of quality meet in the glass.
The 2026 edition of the Südtiroler Blauburgundertage / Pinot Noir Days, the twenty-eighth, was held from May 15 to 18, 2026, between Egna and Montagna. The event opened on May 15 with the award ceremony for the National Pinot Noir Competition at Castello di Enna in Montagna.
In the following days, the Klösterle in Laghetti (Egna) hosted public wine tastings in scheduled sessions (morning 10:00–12:00 and afternoon 16:00–18:00) with online registration. The program also included a masterclass on Italian Pinot Noir dedicated to regional winners and a masterclass at the Pfitscher Estate in Montagna.
Local experiences included the Pinot Noir Experience between the villages of Pinzano (Pinzon) and Glen, featuring a tasting walk in the "Pinot Noir paradise," and the traditional route through the vineyards of Egna and Montagna.
Egna/Neumarkt and Montagna/Montan are located in southern South Tyrol along the Wine Road. By car: take the Egna/Ora exit on the A22 Brenner motorway. By train: Egna-Termeno station on the Brenner line is just a few minutes from the town center.
Public tastings at the Klösterle in Laghetti require online registration. Some experiences (Pinot Noir Experience, masterclasses) have limited capacity and require a participation fee. For the full program, schedules, and bookings, visit the official website: www.blauburgunder.it.
