The South Tyrolean jazz festival evenings in the episcopal city of Bressanone
The Bressanone evenings of the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige are the city-based chapter of one of Europe's most original jazz festivals. Established in 1983, the festival spans the entire Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige, with over fifty concerts each summer reaching cities, valleys, and mountain peaks. The Municipality of Bressanone/Brixen, the heart of the Isarco Valley, is a regular stop on the tour and hosts some of the most anticipated evenings on the bill.
True to the festival's philosophy, the concerts in Bressanone move away from traditional halls to reach surprising, history-rich spaces:
The Bressanone evenings reflect the spirit of the entire festival: contemporary jazz, collective improvisation, and experimental club culture, with unpredictability as the common thread. Alongside big names from the European scene, young talents and international projects find their place in a continuous dialogue between tradition and research. Each concert is designed for a specific location, allowing the listening experience to intertwine with the discovery of the city and its bilingual identity.
As one of the oldest episcopal cities in South Tyrol, Bressanone offers the festival audience a suggestive setting, featuring medieval arcades, the Cathedral, and the frescoed cloister. The jazz evenings thus become part of a rich cultural summer that combines avant-garde music, historical heritage, and the alpine landscape of the Isarco Valley.
During the 44th edition of the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige (June 26 – July 5, 2026), the Municipality of Bressanone/Brixen hosted four evenings spread across as many city venues, confirming its role as a privileged stop for the festival in the Isarco Valley.
The city program alternated between international projects and new voices of contemporary European jazz, each in a different venue, ranging from the public library to the former prison, a historic villa, and a local café.
Bressanone is accessible by train along the Brenner line (Bressanone/Brixen station) and by car via the A22 Brenner motorway, Bressanone exit. The evenings take place in various locations throughout the city: it is recommended to check the official website for the exact venue of each event.
Some concerts have free admission, while others are ticketed (approximately between 5 and 15 euros); reservations may be required for some events. The program and tickets are available at suedtiroljazzfestival.com.
Evenings generally start between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM. In summer, accommodation in Bressanone and the Isarco Valley is in high demand: it is best to book your stay in advance.
