Early music festival in the artists' town of Chiusa
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Klausen klingt is an early music festival held every summer in Chiusa (Klausen in German), a picturesque village in the Isarco Valley, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Known as the "artists' town" due to the colony of painters who resided there between the 19th and 20th centuries, Chiusa provides an ideal backdrop for a festival that brings Baroque and Renaissance music to its most charming locations.
The festival was founded in 2021 by Jasmin Vorhauser, a South Tyrolean musician and educator born in 1995, who is active between South Tyrol and Vienna. With her ensemble L'Aminta, she has received international acclaim, including an award at the Berlin Bach Competition, and has performed in prestigious venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. This experience inspired the idea of a festival that goes beyond the traditional concert format, blending music, literature, and dance into a cohesive artistic journey.
The strength of Klausen klingt lies in the dialogue between the music and the spaces that host it. Each edition spans three days and winds through some of the most beautiful sites in the municipality of Chiusa:
Every year, the festival invites a group of Central European musicians, gathered around a central theme that guides the event. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy: the choice of smaller venues encourages close listening and direct contact with the performers. Supported by the Chiusa Tourist Association and cultural institutions of South Tyrol, the project has established itself in just a few years as a highly anticipated event in the cultural summer of the Isarco Valley.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Klausen klingt have not yet been announced. As in previous years, the festival is expected to take place during the summer in Chiusa (Klausen), spanning three days of early music concerts in the municipality's historic locations. To find out the schedule and program as soon as they are available, we recommend consulting the official website at www.klausen.it.
Chiusa (Klausen) is located along the Isarco Valley, between Bressanone and Bolzano. By car, it can be reached via the A22 Brennero motorway, taking the Chiusa/Val Gardena exit. By train, the Chiusa station is served by the Brennero line. The festival venues are located in the historic center and its surroundings (the Sabiona Monastery is accessible on foot via a short climb).
In recent editions, admission has been based on voluntary donations, with a suggested minimum contribution. Dates and details for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced: we recommend checking the official website at www.klausen.it.
