About Klausen klingt

Klausen klingt is an early music festival that brings the South Tyrolean artists' town of Chiusa (Klausen) to life every summer. Founded in 2021 by musician Jasmin Vorhauser, the festival features three days of Baroque and Renaissance concerts held in the town's historic landmarks, including the Sala Walther, the Sabiona Monastery, and the parish church of Sant'Andrea. It offers an interdisciplinary experience that weaves together music, literature, and dance in an intimate, evocative setting.

An early music festival in the heart of Chiusa

Klausen klingt is an early music festival held every summer in Chiusa (Klausen in German), a picturesque village in the Isarco Valley, in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Known as the "artists' town" due to the colony of painters who resided there between the 19th and 20th centuries, Chiusa provides an ideal backdrop for a festival that brings Baroque and Renaissance music to its most charming locations.

Origins and interdisciplinary spirit

The festival was founded in 2021 by Jasmin Vorhauser, a South Tyrolean musician and educator born in 1995, who is active between South Tyrol and Vienna. With her ensemble L'Aminta, she has received international acclaim, including an award at the Berlin Bach Competition, and has performed in prestigious venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music. This experience inspired the idea of a festival that goes beyond the traditional concert format, blending music, literature, and dance into a cohesive artistic journey.

The historic venues

The strength of Klausen klingt lies in the dialogue between the music and the spaces that host it. Each edition spans three days and winds through some of the most beautiful sites in the municipality of Chiusa:

  • The Sala Walther, in the historic center, often hosts the opening night with readings and musical performances;
  • The Sabiona Monastery, the "Acropolis of Tyrol" perched above the town, serves as the setting for musical walks and itinerant concerts;
  • The parish church of Sant'Andrea, which hosts the closing concerts performed by ensembles specializing in early repertoire.

An immersive experience

Every year, the festival invites a group of Central European musicians, gathered around a central theme that guides the event. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy: the choice of smaller venues encourages close listening and direct contact with the performers. Supported by the Chiusa Tourist Association and cultural institutions of South Tyrol, the project has established itself in just a few years as a highly anticipated event in the cultural summer of the Isarco Valley.
