Summer series of organ music in the Major Seminary Church
The Summer Organ Concerts (known in German as Brixner Orgelkonzerte) are a concert series that brings the Major Seminary Church in Bressanone to life each summer. Located in the province of Bolzano, in the heart of South Tyrol and the Trentino-Alto Adige region, this episcopal city—the oldest in Tyrol—is home to a precious organ heritage, of which this festival is the natural musical expression.
Bressanone preserves some of the most valuable instruments in the Alps: the Cathedral organ, the St. John's Chapel organ, the reconstructed "Daniel Herz" organ in the Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), the historic "Aigner" organ in the parish church, and others kept in churches throughout the town center. The summer series is hosted in the intimate setting of the Major Seminary Church, located on Seminarplatz, just behind the Cathedral.
The series consists of four concerts held on a bi-weekly basis during July and August. Each performance takes place on a Tuesday, starting at 8:30 PM. Every evening features a different organist, offering a journey through the great organ repertoire, from Baroque music to Romantic pieces and improvisation. The series ideally complements the Organ Meditations (Orgelmeditationen), which also grace Bressanone's musical summer with performers such as Franz Comploi.
As part of Bressanone's summer cultural calendar, the organ concerts attract both sacred music enthusiasts and tourists vacationing in South Tyrol. The intimate atmosphere of the Seminary Church, the quality of the instruments, and the understated elegance typical of the Tyrolean tradition make these evenings an intense experience, perfect even for those new to organ repertoire. The initiative is promoted by the Bressanone Cathedral Chapter (Domkapitel) in collaboration with the Major Seminary.
The 2026 series of Summer Organ Concerts (Brixner Orgelkonzerte) consists of four evenings at the Major Seminary Church in Bressanone: Tuesday, July 7 and 21, and Tuesday, August 4 and 18, 2026, starting at 8:30 PM and lasting approximately one hour. The detailed program for each concert, including the names of the organists and the works to be performed, is announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the events. The series is promoted by the Bressanone Cathedral Chapter in collaboration with the Major Seminary.
