The spring celebration dedicated to strawberries in the heart of the Turin Monferrato
In May, Verrua Savoia, a village in the Turin Monferrato perched on the hills overlooking the Po River, hosts its Strawberry Festival, one of the most cherished local celebrations in the area bordering the Provinces of Turin, Vercelli, and Asti. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Verrua Savoia and takes place in the town center, in Piazza Francesco Alighieri, which is transformed for the occasion into a major meeting point for residents and visitors from neighboring towns.
The heart of the festival is the strawberry, a spring fruit that serves as the common thread throughout the event. The most anticipated moment is the fragolata, the distribution of fresh local strawberries, often served with whipped cream and sugar. Alongside the fruit, you will find desserts and strawberry-based specialties prepared according to local traditions.
The Strawberry Festival is also an opportunity to savor the cuisine of Piedmont. The food stall run by the Pro Loco offers, over the various evenings, typical dishes such as agnolotti, grilled meats, and roasts, as well as fish dishes (fried and stewed) that have always been part of the festival menu. The kitchen, managed by volunteers, is one of the reasons for the large crowds that fill the square every year.
The Strawberry Festival represents an important identity-building moment for Verrua Savoia: a celebration that brings together generations of Pro Loco volunteers and showcases an agricultural product tied to spring. For those visiting this part of Monferrato in the Province of Turin, it is the ideal opportunity to discover a scenic village, its food and wine traditions, and the warmth of Piedmontese village festivals.
The 2026 edition of the Strawberry Festival in Verrua Savoia is scheduled from Friday, May 15 to Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Piazza Francesco Alighieri, organized by the Pro Loco. As per tradition, the festival features the fragolata with local strawberries, a food stall with typical Piedmontese dishes, dance evenings with an orchestra, and entertainment for children.
The detailed program with times, evening menus, and musical guests will be published by the Pro Loco in the weeks leading up to the event.
