Strawberry Festival

A centenary festival in the Casale Monferrato area

In Borgo San Martino, a small town in the Alessandria province nestled within the rolling hills of the Casale Monferrato area, the Strawberry Festival is far more than a local fair: it is a tradition renewed every year in early June since 1925. With over a hundred editions behind it, it is one of the longest-running events in Piedmont, transforming the town square into a vibrant meeting point dedicated to fine food and great music.

The queen of the festival: the strawberry

The absolute star is, of course, the strawberry—the iconic fruit of the region—which the Pro Loco celebrates in countless ways at the food stalls: from savory specialties to desserts, including the famous strawberries in wine and strawberry panna cotta. Alongside the seasonal fruit, there is no shortage of traditional Piedmontese dishes, from mixed fried fish to grilled meats, served under the marquees of Piazza Ex Cooperativa.

Music, funfairs, and entertainment for all

Every evening of the festival features its own soundtrack: tribute bands, beat and rock groups, DJ sets, and Latin-American nights keep the square lively until late at night. For families and children, there is a funfair, a charity raffle, and, on Sundays, a wooden games village with clowns and jugglers. It is an intergenerational celebration where grandparents who remember the early editions sit alongside their grandchildren.

A century of history

Reaching the century milestone is a source of great pride for Borgo San Martino and the entire Monferrato region: few festivals in Italy can boast such continuity. The event is the result of the voluntary work of the Pro Loco of Borgo San Martino, in collaboration with the local council, and stands as a guardian of identity and community spirit for the entire area.
