Markets, lights, and entertainment in the heart of Alessandria
Every December, the center of Alessandria, the capital of the province of the same name in Piedmont, lights up for the Alessandria Christmas: a large-scale event that fills the city's most significant squares and streets with markets, lights, attractions, and shows. The focal point is Piazza della Libertà, which becomes the beating heart of the festivities with traditional wooden chalets and attractions for all ages.
Throughout the Christmas season, the market's wooden chalets offer gift ideas, decorations, hampers, handicrafts, and local food and wine specialties. The stalls enliven Piazza della Libertà and extend to the shopping streets of the historic center, thanks to the collaboration of local trade associations and the support of the Municipality of Alessandria.
In addition to the markets, the Alessandria Christmas village usually hosts a Ferris wheel, a traveling road train that tours the city center, themed rides, and a heated marquee theater with interactive shows and workshops dedicated to children. The lights and large decorated trees in the main squares, from Piazza della Libertà to Piazza Garibaldi, complete an atmosphere designed for families.
The Alessandria Christmas is not limited to the center: the city's districts and suburbs, such as Cristo, Borgo Rovereto, and Spinetta Marengo, also offer themed markets, entertainment, and initiatives. This is accompanied by a calendar of concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions, and cultural events distributed over the weekends, allowing visitors to experience the holidays amidst music, tradition, and conviviality in the heart of the Monferrato region.
The 2026 edition of the Alessandria Christmas is scheduled from December 5 to 24, 2026, according to the events plan approved by the Municipality of Alessandria. The initiatives will include Christmas markets and commercial, cultural, recreational, and artisanal events distributed throughout the city's squares and the most significant streets of the city center and historic district.
The detailed program will be enriched as the event approaches and will be announced by the municipal administration in the weeks leading up to the start of the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. The Municipality of Alessandria has confirmed the dates (December 5-24, 2026) in the events plan and will announce the full calendar in the weeks preceding the event.
Based on recent editions, the Alessandria Christmas usually includes: a market with wooden chalets in Piazza della Libertà, a Ferris wheel, a traveling train in the center, a marquee theater with shows and workshops for children, illuminations and large trees in the squares, as well as concerts and initiatives in the districts.
Piazza della Libertà and the streets of the historic center of Alessandria (Province of Alessandria, Piedmont). Initiatives are also spread across the city's districts and suburbs.
Alessandria is easily accessible by train (central station on the Turin-Genoa and Milan-Genoa lines) and by car via the A21 and A26 motorways. The historic center is largely pedestrianized: we recommend using the perimeter parking lots.
Access to the markets and public square events is generally free; some attractions (Ferris wheel, rides, marquee theater shows) may require a ticket.
