About Stramimiani

Stramimiani is the classic road running race in San Cataldo, in the province of Caltanissetta. Originating in the Mimiani district as a small local initiative, it has grown into a regional competition on the FIDAL calendar, valid for the Sicily Grand Prix. It features a 10 km race on a closed city circuit, accompanied by youth races and a strong message of social inclusion and ALS awareness, under the patronage of AISLA and the Municipality of San Cataldo.

Stramimiani: the sport that unites San Cataldo

Stramimiani is the most cherished road running race in San Cataldo, a town in the province of Caltanissetta, in the heart of Sicily. Born in the Mimiani district as a small neighborhood initiative, in just over a decade it has transformed into a sporting event that engages the entire city and the surrounding area, becoming a competition of regional significance.

A race that tells the story of a neighborhood

The event's name pays homage to the Mimiani district, where it all began. The organization, now managed by the ASD Track Club Master Caltanissetta with the patronage of the Municipality of San Cataldo and the collaboration of the "Mimiani โ€“ San Domenico Savio" neighborhood committee, has managed to preserve its grassroots spirit, combining athletic competition, local participation, and social commitment. The event is dedicated to the memory of Ignazio Raimondi, a figure deeply linked to the history of the race.

The course and race format

The main race covers a distance of 10 km, consisting of a 2 km city circuit repeated five times, measured and certified by FIDAL and entirely closed to traffic. The route, mostly flat and made more technical by a slight incline near the turnaround point, passes through Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII, Corso Sicilia, Piazza degli Eroi, and Via Mimiani, with the turnaround near the Church of San Domenico Savio.

  • Competitive race: 10 km reserved for Junior, Promising, Senior, and Master categories.
  • Youth races: events dedicated to Esordienti, Ragazzi, Cadetti, and Allievi categories, with staggered starts.
  • Classification: a leg of the Sicily Grand Prix and the Caltanissetta-Enna Interprovincial Grand Prix.

Sport, inclusion, and solidarity

Stramimiani is more than just a competition: the event openly promotes sport, social inclusion, friendship, and hospitality. For several editions, the event has been linked to ALS awareness thanks to the patronage of AISLA, with dedicated moments such as the walk in tribute to Paralympic champion Peppe Averna. A combination of athleticism and solidarity that has helped the race grow in the hearts of the local community.
