The 10 km road race in the heart of Licata
StraLicata is the premier running event in the municipality of Licata, a seaside town in the province of Agrigento, Sicily. It is a competitive 10-kilometer race organized by ASD Atletica Licata in collaboration with the local council. Established in 2018, the race has grown with every edition to become one of the most anticipated events on the Sicilian early-season running calendar.
The course follows a 3,333-meter city circuit, which participants complete three times to reach the 10 km distance. The route winds through the historic center, runs alongside the marina and the Marinai d'Italia quay, and passes through the pedestrian area of Via Principe di Napoli. It is a fast and spectacular course: the elevation varies only between 9 and 23 meters above sea level, with an average gradient of less than 1%, making it ideal for those chasing a personal best. The meeting point and start line are in Piazza Progresso, in the heart of the city.
StraLicata is included in the national FIDAL calendar with a Bronze classification and is World Athletics certified. The event kicks off the Sicily Bronze Races circuit and is also part of the Agrigento Grand Prix โ ACSI Trophy, making it a key fixture for athletes on the island, from seniors to masters of all categories.
Beyond the competition, StraLicata is a true community festival that involves all of Licata: streets are closed to traffic, spectators line the route, and hundreds of athletes bring color to the historic center. Participation grows year after year, with sports clubs arriving from all over Sicily, confirming the event as an unmissable date on the regional running calendar.
The 8th edition of StraLicata took place on Sunday, March 1st, 2026, in Licata, setting a participation record for the event: 802 registered participants and 82 clubs, with athletes ranging from 17 to 91 years old. The race opened the third edition of the Sicily Bronze Races and served as the second stage of the Agrigento Grand Prix โ ACSI Trophy.
Among the men, Osama Zoglami (C.S. Aeronautica Militare) triumphed with a record time of 30'23"; among the women, Nicoletta Santonocito (ASD Magma Team) won in 36'42". An event reserved for Paralympic athletes was also held.
Licata can be reached by car via the SS115 along the southern Sicilian coast; the nearest airports are Comiso and Catania-Fontanarossa. The meeting point, start, and finish are in Piazza Progresso, in the city center.
The registration fee for the 10 km race is approximately 16 euros. Entries can be made through ASD Atletica Licata and federal platforms; information is available on the official website atleticalicata.it and the organization's Facebook page.
Arrive in the morning for the gathering; the historic center will have traffic restrictions on race day. Numerous bars and restaurants in the marina area are perfect for extending your day after the race.
