The half marathon running through the historic center, port, and seaside of Licata
The Half Marathon Licata Città di Mare is the most anticipated running event of the autumn in the municipality of Licata, in the province of Agrigento, in the heart of southern Sicily. Organized by ASD Atletica Licata, the event is part of the national FIDAL calendar and is World Athletics certified, featuring a homologated 21.097-meter course that makes it a true international half marathon.
The track is a city circuit that starts from Piazza Sant'Angelo, a symbolic landmark of Licata, and winds first through the streets of the historic center, passing through the charming alleys of the Marina district. The route then extends towards the sea, passing under the San Giacomo lighthouse, up to the Marina Cala del Sole tourist port. From there, it continues towards the Playa area, crossing the Serrovira bridge over the Salso river before returning to the starting point. The elevation change is minimal (altitude between 9 and 23 meters, average gradient between +2 and -2%), making the course fast and suitable for those aiming for a personal best.
The day is not reserved for athletes alone: alongside the competitive 21 km half marathon, there is also an 11 km competitive race and a 5.045 km fun run, open to all, allowing families, enthusiasts, and locals to experience the event's atmosphere without needing a sports license. A category dedicated to non-licensed foreign athletes is also provided.
More than just a race, the Half Marathon Licata Città di Mare has become a celebration of sport and community over the years, highlighting the landscape and historical heritage of Licata and the province of Agrigento. Every participant receives an official commemorative medal and the event's technical jersey. The event is part of the Sicilian half marathon calendar and attracts athletes from all over the island and the rest of Italy, helping to promote sports tourism along the Agrigento coast.
The fourth edition of the Half Marathon Licata Città di Mare will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with the meeting point at Piazza Sant'Angelo in Licata. Three distances are confirmed: the 21.097 km competitive half marathon, the 11 km competitive race, and the 5.045 km fun run open to everyone. The course maintains the city circuit through the historic center, the Marina district, the Cala del Sole port, the Playa area, and the Serrovira bridge over the Salso river.
Detailed start times and the full daily program will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the race on the official ASD Atletica Licata website.
