The half marathon that crosses the historic heart of Forlì
StraForlì Run in the City is the city running event of the Municipality of Forlì, in the province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna. The event transforms the historic center into a large competitive and festive circuit, with start and finish in the scenic Piazza Aurelio Saffi, the monumental living room of the city dominated by the abbey of San Mercuriale.
The main race is a half marathon over the official distance of 21.0975 km, homologated by FIDAL and included in the national calendar. It is the only half marathon that crosses all the most important and historic points of Forlì: the course, completely flat and particularly fast, touches the four ancient city gates - Porta San Pietro, Porta Schiavonia, Porta Ravaldino, and Porta Cotogni - before bringing the athletes back to Piazza Saffi for the grand finale.
Alongside the competitive race, there is the Family Run, a non-competitive fun walk of 8 kilometers open to families, children, and amateurs. The first six kilometers are shared with the half marathon course, then the route continues towards Porta Santa Chiara and the surrounding countryside, offering a more relaxed experience suitable for everyone.
Organized by the StraForlì Team with the support of the Municipality of Forlì, CONI, FIDAL, and CSEN, StraForlì has grown rapidly since its first editions, attracting over a thousand participants between the competitive race and the walk. The event draws athletes from numerous clubs across Italy, combining the competitive aspect with a popular and family-friendly dimension that involves the entire Forlì community.
Race day includes refreshment points along the course, pacers for different time goals, bag drop, changing rooms, and a recovery bag at the finish. The streets of the center, closed to traffic, fill with spectators and colors, making StraForlì not just a race but a true city celebration dedicated to sport and the discovery of historic Forlì.
The 3rd edition of StraForlì took place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, with the half marathon starting at 9:30 AM from Piazza Aurelio Saffi. The 21.0975 km course, FIDAL approved and completely flat, passed through the four historic gates of Forlì.
