The great solidarity run between Cesena and Cesenatico for Alzheimer's research
The Alzheimer Marathon is much more than a sporting event: it is a great collective embrace that, every September, brings together thousands of people between Cesena and Cesenatico, in the heart of Romagna in the province of Forlì-Cesena (Emilia-Romagna). Founded in 2012 on the initiative of the association Amici di Casa Insieme and today promoted by the Alzheimer Marathon Foundation, the event has a precise objective: to raise public awareness about dementia and to raise funds for the care, prevention, and research of Alzheimer's disease.
The beauty of the Alzheimer Marathon is that it excludes no one. Those who love competition can test themselves in the Half Marathon (21 km), a race included in the FIDAL calendar and named in memory of Azeglio Vicini, the Cesena-born coach who won the World Cup. Those who prefer to walk in company can join the Great March (16 km), the Small March (8 km), and the Mini March for the little ones and the elderly. All start from the Cesena hinterland and converge towards the sea, ending at the Parco di Levante in Cesenatico.
An entire weekend of celebration revolves around the race. The Village comes to life at the Parco di Levante, with bib collection, entertainment, music, refreshments, and food trucks. The program also includes the Dog Walking, a walk with your four-legged friends, and the Kids Run dedicated to children and teenagers. In addition, there is the Distributed Marathon, which allows participation remotely from dozens of Italian squares.
Each registration and each personal fundraising effort support concrete projects: from Alzheimer Cafés to research centers for early diagnosis. Over 500 volunteers and dozens of sports clubs and local associations make this day possible, which in Cesenatico is now an eagerly awaited event for the entire Romagna community.
The fifteenth edition of the Alzheimer Marathon returns to Cesenatico on the weekend of September 12 and 13, 2026, confirming the formula that combines competition, walking, and fundraising. The heart of the event remains the Half Marathon (VIII Azeglio Vicini Memorial), alongside non-competitive marches open to all and a rich program of side events at the Parco di Levante.
A Distributed Marathon is also planned, allowing participation remotely from squares across Italy.
The finish line and the Village are located at the Parco di Levante in Cesenatico (FC). The town can be reached by car from the A14 motorway (Cesena or Valle del Rubicone exit) and by train with the Cesenatico station on the Ferrara-Rimini line. The start of the Half Marathon and the Great March is in Cesena.
Registration for the Half Marathon is done online through the ENDU platform and on the official event website. Shuttle services are available between the start and finish locations.
The event takes place in September, with the marches and the running race on Sunday and the side events (Dog Walking, Kids Run, Village) starting on Saturday.
