The oldest fair in Romagna, in the heart of Russi
The Fira di Sett Dulur is considered the oldest fair in Romagna. Its roots lie in the devotion to the Madonna dei Sette Dolori (Our Lady of Sorrows): as early as the 14th century, the "Compagnia dei Sette Dolori di Maria Vergine" organized a general procession, and in 1688 Pope Innocent XI institutionalized the event, giving life to a fair that has been renewed every year since then in Russi, in the heart of the province of Ravenna. Over time, the sacred festival has transformed into a great popular celebration, while still maintaining its connection to its religious origins.
For about a week, around the third Sunday in September, the squares and streets of Russi's historic center come alive from morning till late at night. The program is rich and varied, appealing to different generations: concerts and musical performances, theater, street arts and artists, art exhibitions, conferences, activities for children and families, sports tournaments, car and motorcycle displays, and guided tours of the town's sites.
The commercial heart of the fair is the large market, with stalls dedicated to crafts, antiques, and local products, winding along the town's streets. The traditional funfair rides are also present, making the Fira a beloved event for children too.
Gastronomy is one of the souls of the event. At the food stalls, you can taste the great classics of Romagna cuisine: cappelletti, bël e cöt (the prized local cotechino sausage), and canèna nôva, the new wine. Conviviality and good food accompany the evenings of the festival.
Among the events that mark the week are evening shows, sports events, entertainment moments, and the traditional fireworks displays that light up Russi's sky. The event is organized by the Municipality of Russi together with numerous cultural, volunteer, sports, and trade associations from the area, in collaboration with the Pro Loco.
More than just a fair, the Fira di Sett Dulur is a moment of identity for Russi and for all of Romagna: an occasion for the community to come together, traditions to be passed down, and the town to show visitors its most authentic and welcoming face, in the spirit of culture, music, and conviviality under the stars.
The Fira di Sett Dulur 2026 will take place in Russi (RA) from September 15 to 21, 2026, confirming the traditional placement around the third Sunday in September. The event is part of the "Russi Estate 2026" calendar, the festival that accompanies the Romagna town throughout the summer season until the big autumn fair.
As tradition dictates, the event will feature concerts, shows, theater, street arts, exhibitions, activities for children, sports events, the large craft and antique market, and stalls offering Romagna gastronomy, not to mention fireworks displays. The complete program, with schedules, lineups, and details for each day, will be announced by the Municipality of Russi and the Fira organization in the weeks leading up to the event.
The Fira di Sett Dulur takes place in the historic center of Russi (RA), in Emilia-Romagna. Events animate the town's squares and streets, with an extension at Palazzo San Giacomo for exhibitions and guided tours.
