The food and wine walking tour through the countryside of Marene
In the town of Marene, nestled in the plains of the Cuneo province, spring brings one of Piedmont's most beloved food and wine events: STRAdeGustando. Far more than just a local fair, it is a true food and wine walking tourโa 10-kilometre route that meanders through the Marene countryside, featuring seven tasting stations that take you from breakfast all the way to dessert.
The walk begins in Piazza Carignano, in the heart of the village. From there, participants set off on a flat, scenic route that visits iconic local landmarks, including the Castello di Marene, the Castello della Salza, and historic farmhouses like Pallavicino, Basalusso, and Canaposo, as well as several sites of artistic interest. Each stop offers a chance to pause, rest, and savour a different dish, perfectly paired with a glass of fine wine from the Langhe and Roero regions.
The heart of the event lies in its local products: premium Piedmontese beef, PDO cheeses such as Bra, Raschera, and Toma Piemontese, fruit from the Monviso district, and the famous Marenottoโa local mint and black cherry biscuit that has put Marene on the map. STRAdeGustando was the first event in the town to be awarded the De.Co. (Municipal Designation) mark, a recognition that protects and promotes local municipal products.
Organised by the Pro Loco of Marene in collaboration with the Municipality, and supported by the Piedmont Region, the Province of Cuneo, and the Cuneese Tourist Board, STRAdeGustando involves over three hundred volunteers and attracts thousands of participants each year. The event also has a strong charitable focus, with proceeds donated to local projects. Great attention is paid to environmental sustainability, featuring ceramic plates, steel cutlery, and initiatives for recycling plastic bottles.
STRAdeGustando is so popular that tickets regularly sell out during the pre-sale phase, which is managed locally and available online via the official website. Those wishing to experience this blend of taste, nature, and Piedmontese tradition should book well in advance: year after year, the event reaffirms the deep bond between Marene and its culinary heritage.
The tenth edition of STRAdeGustando was held in Marene on Sunday, May 3, 2026, with a 9:30 am start from Piazza Carignano. For the anniversary, the organisers offered a special edition with even richer courses along the seven stops of the 10-kilometre route. Tickets were sold out during the pre-sale on Saturday, April 11, confirming the event's massive popularity.
The itinerary passed through the Castello di Marene, the Castello della Salza, and the Pallavicino, Basalusso, and Canaposo farmhouses, highlighting the excellence of the Cuneo region and the charitable and environmental commitment of the Pro Loco of Marene.
