The non-competitive fun run that kicks off the Patronal Feast of Castiglione Torinese
StraCastiglione is the most cherished sporting event in Castiglione Torinese, a town nestled in the hills at the gates of Turin, in the Piedmont region. It is a free, non-competitive, and untimed fun run designed to be truly open to everyone: from seasoned runners to families with children, and those simply looking for a pleasant walk in good company.
The route follows the traditional 6.5 km path that crosses the Castiglione plains and runs largely along the cycling path, away from traffic and immersed in the local greenery. It is a formula that has attracted hundreds of participants each year, turning a simple run into a genuine village celebration.
Since 2024, StraCastiglione has carried the subtitle Giovanni Sacco Memorial, in honor of a figure who shaped local sports history. Giovanni Sacco was a founder and vice-president of the association that organized the event for years. The 2026 edition marks the third Memorial dedicated to him, underscoring how deeply the race is tied to the identity and people of the Castiglione community.
StraCastiglione is not an isolated event; it traditionally opens the festivities of the Patronal Feast of Castiglione Torinese, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and organized in collaboration with the local Pro Loco and community associations. In the days following the race, the town comes alive with food and wine stalls, live music, children's workshops, craft markets, and entertainment for all ages.
More than just a race, StraCastiglione is an opportunity to come together. A pasta party for athletes and their companions has become a customary tradition at the finish line, while small prizes are awarded to the top finishers. It is an event that blends sport, social connection, and local tradition, perfect for discovering an authentic corner of the Piedmontese hills just a stone's throw from Turin.
