The traditional St. Vitus market on the Tartscher Bühel hill in Tartsch
The St. Veit Markt (St. Vitus Market) is one of the most characteristic annual markets in the Upper Vinschgau Valley. It takes place every June, coinciding with the feast of the patron saint St. Vitus (Sankt Veit, June 15th), in the small village of Tartsch and on the evocative Tartscher Bühel, the hill overlooking the Malles basin. We are in the municipality of Malles Venosta/Mals, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The event captures the authentic spirit of South Tyrolean village festivals. At its heart is the farmers' market (Bauernmarkt), where local farm producers offer regional goods, seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheeses, bread, and Vinschgau specialties. Alongside the food market, handicraft stalls offer handmade items, colorful artisanal products, and traditional goods.
One of the most popular highlights is the Vinschger Baurnkuchl, the traditional Vinschgau farmhouse kitchen, where you can taste typical dishes prepared according to ancient local recipes. The day is enlivened by live music and a convivial atmosphere that invites you to linger over a glass of wine, a culinary specialty, and a chat with the locals.
The St. Veit Markt is also designed with children in mind: there is a petting zoo (Streichelzoo), a children's entertainment program, and a small children's market. All the local associations ("alle Vereine des Ortes") collaborate to ensure the success of the event, reflecting the strong community spirit of this mountain hamlet.
The setting is unparalleled: the Tartscher Bühel is a panoramic hill of great historical and natural value, a site of human settlement since prehistoric times and home to the small church of St. Vitus. From here, the view sweeps across the entire Malles basin and the mountains of the Upper Vinschgau, making a visit to the market a perfect opportunity to enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas in the Vinschgau.
The 2026 edition of the St. Veit Markt was held in June in the village of Tartsch, on the Tartscher Bühel, in the municipality of Malles Venosta/Mals (Vinschgau Valley, Province of Bolzano). The traditional St. Vitus market enlivened the morning, from approximately 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the Bauernmarkt (farmers' market) and its regional products, local handicrafts, and stalls featuring local specialties.
The highlights of the event were all present: the Vinschger Baurnkuchl with typical Vinschgau farmhouse dishes, music, the petting zoo, and the entertainment program and market dedicated to children. Local associations collaborated on the organization, creating a festive village atmosphere at the foot of the scenic Tartsch hill.
The St. Veit Markt is held every year in June, typically on the weekend closest to the feast of St. Vitus (June 15th), with market hours generally from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
