Three days of fine dining, music, and a walk to the Ingagna Dam in the village of San Michele, Mongrando.
The Spring Festival is an event that, at the beginning of June, fills the village of San Michele di Mongrando—a small town in the Province of Biella, Piedmont—with chatter and aromas. It is organized by the Pro Loco Amici di San Michele, the association that has kept the community spirit of this corner of the Biellese region, at the foot of the Serra morainic hills, alive for years. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense: no massive stages or stars, just three days built around good food, company, and the local territory.
The heart of the festival is the food stand, where Pro Loco volunteers serve specialties of Piedmontese and Biellese cuisine, often accompanied by themed dinners that change each night. After dinner, the festivities continue with live music, dance orchestras, and mobile discos, while the outdoor areas host bocce competitions, a popular sport deeply rooted in Biellese tradition.
The most iconic event is the traditional ecological walk that, for several years, has led participants to the Ingagna Dam. The route, covering several kilometers along paths around the village, offers a striking crossing over the dam's wall and sweeping panoramic views of the reservoir—a rare opportunity to observe this basin up close. On Sunday, the walk concludes with the famous Hiker's Lunch, served in the festival area.
Between a meal and a game of bocce, the Spring Festival is above all a meeting point for the residents of Mongrando and neighboring towns, but it is also a perfect opportunity for visitors to discover the authenticity of the lesser-known Biellese region: morainic landscapes, trails, local cuisine, and the straightforward hospitality of a small community. An event that captures, on a local scale, the soul of the Province of Biella and Piedmont.
