The festival celebrating spring in the historic center of Caldonazzo
The Spring Festival is one of the most anticipated events in the spring calendar of Caldonazzo, a town in Valsugana overlooking the lake of the same name, in the Province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Every year, in early May, the town's historic center transforms for a full day into a lively route of stalls, workshops, music, and tradition, welcoming families, curious visitors, and craft enthusiasts.
The heart of the event is the fair that winds through the streets of the center, open from morning until evening. The stalls feature hobbies and crafts, flowers and spring arrangements, handmade creations, and offerings from local producers. Strolling among the stalls, in a car-free historic center animated by the crowd, is the best way to soak up the town's atmosphere and the arrival of the beautiful season.
The Spring Festival reserves plenty of space for families and children. Among the most characteristic offerings is the gold panning workshop curated by the Gruppo Culturale Miniere di Calceranica, which recalls the area's mining history, and the LEGO brick exhibition set up by Dolomites Bricks at the Casa della Cultura. In the afternoon, the Gruppo Giovani offers games and entertainment for children in the Parchetto tuttifrutti.
In Piazza Vecchia, there are continuous dance performances and demonstrations of ancient trades by the local Folk Group, a living testament to Trentino's popular traditions. On the same day, the "La gente di Caldonazzo" Museum reopens, telling the story and daily life of the community, while the town's exhibition spaces host art shows by local artists.
At noon, the festival gathers under the marquee on Viale Stazione for the traditional Trentino lunch, accompanied by music: polenta, sauerkraut, pork ribs, and local cheeses, in a convivial occasion that unites the town. Admission to the event is free.
Immersed in the landscape of Valsugana, just a few steps from Lake Caldonazzo, the Spring Festival is much more than a market: it is the celebration with which the entire community greets the arrival of spring, showcasing local crafts, folklore, and culture in a setting of great natural charm.
