A Magical Christmas in Borgo Valsugana

A Magical Christmas in Borgo Valsugana is the series of holiday events that brings the historic center of Borgo Valsugana to life every December in the heart of the Valsugana valley in Trentino (Autonomous Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige region). The event is organized by the Municipality of Borgo Valsugana in collaboration with local merchants, associations from Borgo and the hamlet of Olle, the Pro Loco, and the APT Valsugana Lagorai tourism board.

Christmas markets under the Brenta porticoes

The heart of the festival is the Christmas market, which winds along the characteristic porticoes overlooking the Brenta river as it flows through the historic center. Beneath the arches, you will find beautiful wooden huts and stalls run by merchants, artisans, and farmers, offering excellent food and wine, decorations, and gift ideas in a truly enchanting atmosphere. The markets are concentrated on the weekends of December, with special openings as Christmas approaches.

A program for families

Alongside the stalls, the festival offers a rich calendar of activities designed primarily for families and children:

• The Elf Village, featuring entertainment, workshops, and activities for the little ones;
• The Santa Claus train, which travels through the streets of the center;
• Concerts, shows, and music along the town streets;
• Live woodcarving and cooking shows dedicated to Christmas desserts;
• Food stands serving local specialties.

The Canederlo Festival and A Village of Nativity Scenes

The Christmas season traditionally kicks off with the Canederlo Festival on the opening Sunday, featuring music, dancing, entertainment, and workshops for children centered around the iconic dish of Trentino cuisine. During the same period, the town hosts A Village of Nativity Scenes, a trail that leads visitors through nativity scenes set up in the most picturesque corners of Borgo and Olle, which can be visited until Epiphany. To complete the festivities, the Santa Claus Run fills the streets of the center with participants dressed in red on the designated day.

A Christmas in Valsugana

With its setting between the river and the mountains, Borgo Valsugana offers an authentic, family-friendly Christmas experience that combines the tradition of Alpine markets with the warmth of a small Trentino town. The event is free to enter.
