The festival of nature and human-focused photography in the heart of Abruzzo
The Spoltore Naturalistic and Humanistic Photography Festival is an event that transforms the village of Spoltore, in the province of Pescara, into an open-air gallery dedicated to nature and human-focused photography every summer. Born from the municipality's desire to make Spoltore a true City of Photography, the festival combines a passion for imagery with reflection on the environment, biodiversity, and the relationship between human beings and the landscape.
The heart of the event is Piazza D'Albenzio, which hosts photo exhibitions, evening video projections, and debates with experts, photographers, and scholars. The displayed images tell stories of landscapes, natural phenomena, fragile ecosystems, and threatened animal species in a visual journey that invites the public to look at nature with new eyes. Alongside the exhibitions, there are projections curated by nationally renowned nature photographers and in-depth sessions on topics such as protected areas, sustainability, and even neuroaesthetics applied to photography.
The pride of the festival is the La Genziana National Photography Competition, a long-standing tradition that attracts hundreds of participants from all over Italy and finds its exhibition showcase at the Spoltore Photo Festival. The selected works, dedicated to nature photography and open themes, are presented to the public, highlighting the deep bond between the event and Abruzzo's photographic culture.
The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Spoltore together with the Spoltore City of Photography association and the local Pro Loco, with the contribution of curators and local enthusiasts. It is a free, open-air event designed to introduce families, curious visitors, and enthusiasts to the language of photography and environmental issues.
Overlooking the hills of the Pescara province, just a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea and the Majella massif, Spoltore is a village that preserves a cozy and charming historic center. By hosting this festival, the municipality enhances its cultural and natural heritage, becoming part of the Abruzzo tradition that uses nature photography as a tool for knowledge and territorial protection.
